Rio Lobo

decent Hawks-Wayne collaboration. Made in the 70s by an oldtimer as Hawks its feels two-faced. Part of it feels like a old-time 40-50s western Hawks and Wayne would made then. Other parts feel more modern, especially the women character who are more sexual free, independent and active than in old-time westerns. Wayne does his thing well, unfortunate the supporting cast, beside being very pretty, can't reach his level. Apart from the great Jack Elam, who appear in the movie very late alas.

An unfortunate misfire (all the moreso for being Hawks' swan song); wheezy and anachronistic style and settings feel dated for a 70s era western, not helped by the younger performers who act and behave in a markedly more 'modern' style than their aging co-stars. Even Wayne can't breathe much life into the tired and (at third times the charm) predictable story line.

I'm beginning to actively dislike John Wayne.

Hawks went to the well once too often in this third version of Rio Bravo.

Maybe the funniest John Wayne movie I ever seen.

Weakest of the trilogy. There is some poor acting and the script doesn't particularly shine. Still decent by itself but holds nothing towards "Rio Bravo" and "El Dorado".

The master has definitely lost his touch.

A lesser Hawks/Wayne picture with some annoying characters and a bad script. Nice camerawork though.
