The opening is great but the rest is not even half as fun. There are only like two good performances and I hate to be this guy but the kids are bad. I could look past that but they are also delivering terrible dialogue. The aura of youth isn't present in the dialogue or actions so the film never nails being a kid. It gets a little tedious. The saturated green and even some of the shots, the style in general, is good shit. It looks like a fairytale but underneath the surface there's no magic.

It's cute and good-looking, cast seems awesome at times, but after 35 minutes or so, is starts rapidly losing its steam -- 114 minutes following three kids and their new friend trying to get an egg so they can bake a blueberry pie for the boys' mom and finally play videogame, come on -- and gets just annoyingly overcalculated.

Weston Razooli feels extremely self assured as a director. He knows exactly what kind of film he wants to make, and is mostly successful in achieving it. Riddle of Fire has an excellent sense of style. Visually it's superb with fantastic bits of dialogue, and a great score. That said the kids feel slightly too young, which can sometimes take you out of the movie a bit. Also I don't normally harp on the acting too much, but the mom and the baker were truly bad. Good film overall though.

Kids caught up in a crime spree of a whack-a-doodle group of criminals. Hard to enjoy, but kids might love it.

Quite magical. This guy gets how to make a hommage to kids movies like Stand by Me, Goonies etc. He manages to believably shot it in 80s style while keeping action in modern times. With addition of some light fantasy shenanigans and playing a bit with classic adventure film formula but without all this overly meta bullshit that infects so many modern genre films. What a debut!
