Bob Clark what the hell were you. It makes absolutely no sense for a Nashville music club to be this big and popular in 1980s New York but than Dolly Parton comes out and I get it. I wish I had Stallone singing confidence.

A comedy with Sly and Dolly works about as well as you'd expect. i.e. not at all. Whoever's bright idea it was to pair them up is anyone's guess. Sly really embarrasses himself with an over the top turn (no pun) as a goofy cab driver that produces close to zero laughs, while Dolly is just Dolly. Suffice to say, they don't have much chemistry, and Sly's singing is truly horrendous. Clark was not studio material, and Rhinestone was simply a mistake for all involved.

Wow, just when you think that Stallone gets a chance to act, he blows it by overdoing and bringing way too much energy. As someone who likes all music including country, some of the songs were decent. there were even some decent one liners that were actually funny. Parton and Stallone even have a decent chemistry together. But this movie was a bad fish out of water that was totally predictable and badly acted.

The story idea - Fish (Italian stereotype) out of water - is cliched, but solid. & w/ two well-liked actors in the leads, the level of suckiness is inexcusable. Unfortunately the script is lazy as fck w/ lots of playground insults & Stallone mugging & yelling for laughs. Neither lead ever seems to be playing a character either (Sly just keeps mugging), so the romantic chemistry is nonexistent. I was curious to see if they could make Sly a plausible country singer for at least 1 song, but nope.
