Reunion in France

Uma aventura em Paris estreava há 80 anos nos EUA. Acho que estou sendo generosa por conta do Dassin, porque depois de estrear um mês depois de Casablanca com tema idêntico, mas sem os elementos que tornam Casablanca superior, isso aqui acaba sendo um balde de água fria. Um desses casos que se um filme não existisse, elevaria nosso contentamento com ele. Box Versátil Hollywood contra Hitler.

The script was lousy. Everybody involved agreed on that. But the amazing star-powered cast made sure it worked on some degree. Take it as a comedy than the serious espionage film it tries to be. The biggest appeal of Reunion in France (1942) was linking Joan Crawford with Hollywood's hottest male prospect, John Wayne! While the magic is wasted by the writing, one can't deny the charisma they both possessed.

I get that she was kind of a sleeper cell, but seeing her kiss fascists left and right was weird. Just made me wanna watch army of shadows.

Interesting war flick, even though Crawford's character is too broadly drawn to connect with much (at least nowadays). Best postmortem one liner: "Don't worry, darling, that's a GOOD Jerry!"

What would you get if John Wayne would have been in Casablanca? Probably something similar to this.
