I definitely liked this movie. I was expecting another fail sequel. You know, being the sequel of an average movie and a PSI of 29 on top of it. But I liked this way more than the first. There are lots of cool quality action scenes. Nice effects. Plot is not disturbing. And this is all to look for in a movie of this genre. I was entertained. Can't see why I am the minority for liking this movie.

Resident Evil Marathon, Hour 3.9: I'm not a fan of opening a film with reusing footage from the previous installment. Normally it's an insult - do we have no cultural memory? - but so many threads are picked up and forgotten I'm starting to think it helps Anderson keep on track. Nemesis is a waste - he's kinda cute. When Jill Valentine walks into the police department and starts shouting psychobabble at her boss and shooting handcuffed zombies, I was looking for social commentary.

Definitely my favorite of the series, Apocalypse offers some of the same dumb action the first one does, but offers some fan service to the diehards of the video games with appearances from Nemesis and Lickers. Being set in Raccoon City, the movie takes place through one night with Alice and crew trying to find a way out of the city while trying to survive the night. The plot itself a lot more interesting than the first, even if it's generic. If you like the first one, you'll probably like this.

This one follows on well from the first, but raises the levels of stupid to new heights. I know it's a terrible movie, but I can't help enjoying these Resident Evil films. Could it be that despite all my allusions of being an intelligent, sophisticated and thoughtful human being all I really desire is some hot chicks in tight clothes shooting people in the head? This film provoked a lot of soul-searching and introspection on my part, although I'm sure that wasn't what the producers intended.

What is it with these darn "Resident Evil" movies that I find so entertaining? They're no good, and this second venture is more flying bullets and target practice than any film I've seen. The action sequences are absurd and fun, and zombies are great to shoot at. And then you have Milla Jovovich going kung-fu-matrix on zombies- now that's more fun. And for a series that's admittedly dumb, I kind of like how the plots connect so well from one film to the next. And yes, my credibility is gone.

Under Quarantine Film Reviews #34: I would have forgiven the terrible acting, shlocky editing, and god awful writing but making Nemesis look like a burnt testicle on platform boots with a broken heart supersedes all of that. Sidenote, seeing Jill Valentine's outfit in live-action makes it so much more ridiculous that it was her outfit in the game.

Here's the thing, right? Apocalypse is bad, but I'm still kind of enjoying this franchise. Am I brain dead? Maybe. I enjoy seeing Nemesis, even in such a neutered form, but I also can't help but feel that a movie like Apocalypse would be a million times better if they followed the basic format of Resident Evil 2 or 3. It is what it is, I suppose.

Since we're never given any reason to care about anyone the first 20 minutes illustrating how the city goes to zombie sh-t is extremely dull. Once we get 2 heroic bad-sses (apparently the height of characterization in these films) to follow its much more watchable. There's plenty that doesn't make sense but the action is non-stop & there's some surprising moments: a thrilling fall down a building wall, a twist that allows our heroine to be more than "cool", & another unexpectedly downbeat ending

Oddly an improvement over the first, though still not a good film. A lot of the terrible writing from the first film is drowned out by action in this one. Some stupid as hell action, but sometimes it's so stupid that I can't help but laugh. And I guess Jill Valentine was an improvement over whoever Michell Rodriguez's character was.

Better than the first Resident Evil movie, which I was not expecting it to be. Great atmosphere. This would have scored higher if not for the awful overuse of crappy slow motion. Even though the premise of the entire series is absurd, I have to admit that there is a certain polish to these first couple of films which I find very appealing. The plot, while crazy, is extremely well paced, and the first two films link quite naturally with each other. I'm looking forward to the next!

Resident Evil: Apocalypse ends up abandoning all pretense of horror in the second installment of the series. Apart from a couple jump scenes, the majority of the film fits far better into the action genre. It is action packed fun, and for the most part, it doesn't get boring. I have a feeling the change in style isn't welcome by fans of the games. Regardless, it still manages to be an enjoyable film, and definitely worth a watch if you want to see the continuation of the story.

Mistakes - 1) When Nemesis blows up the STARS sniper on the roof of the theater, the size of his rocket launcher changes drastically. 2) A zombie hits its head on a tombstone, which falls over. In the next shot, it's upright again. 3) Just before Nemesis starts shooting at Alice after shooting at Valentine, the counter on his gun shows 0000 rounds left. 4) At the end, as the doctor walks away from Alice after questioning her, she changes from looking up at him to looking down between shots.

Certainly stupider than the first, but for some reason this doesn't annoy me. Again this keeps the action flowing without dwelling too much on characters. The whole Nemesis sideline pretty well sucks, it's not too hard to ignore though. Makes me want to play the game. That probably should be a negative, but here it works.

Better than the first one I would have to say. Less claustrophobic, more open, action scenes are less repetitive. Certainly enjoyed Alice and Jill’s respective mesh top/bare midriff and tube top/short skirt outfits. Don’t have to even look at pics of Welcome to Raccoon City to know those outfits are lost relics of 00s filmmaking. I mean the movie’s still aggressively stupid though; I’m not saying the Oscars made a mistake overlooking this one in 2005 or anything lol.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse is more of the same from a Resident Evil sequel directed by Paul W. S. Anderson. If I had to say anything good it at least doesn't adhere to the conventions of the video games but still honors their existence. It's just that everything is so amateurish. It's not well-acted, well-directed, well-scripted, or the remotest bit interesting, in short: it is a bad movie, plain and simple.

By the numbers sequel starts out well, with an amusingly gruesome portrait of the deterioration of Raccoon City - unfortunately the film itself deteriorates pretty quickly after this as well, with some admittedly well-staged action scenes and (for genre requirements) fine performances not being able to offset a base-level over familiarity in the material. Never particularly scary or unsettling despite a considerable amount of gore - Jovovich at least seems to relish her role as resident bad-ass.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse is a bad movie, in the classical sense in which we typically classify bad movies. It lacks the tension in the first movie (which was an unoriginal B-movie in and of itself), and begins with a barrage of monotonous and gratuitous action. However, it quickly becomes apparent that this movie's ambition is to be more cheesy and preposterous than the first, and the ridiculousness of what transpires (especially towards the end) was actually pretty satisfying. Great bad movie.

I liked this one a bit better than the first film. For starters, we aren't stuck inside an underground facility for most of the movie, which is a welcome move. Nemesis is a more compelling threat than security systems and zombies. There's still no reason to care about any of the characters, though, and I wasn't particularly impressed by any of the performances (Kretschmann in particular seems unimpressed by the lines he's being asked to read.).

More a RE led by Jill, but somehow Alice shines by smashing cathedral glasses, smoking a cigarette just to explode zombie dogs or turning Nemesis to her side (!). Curiously not as bas as I remember: Witt seems to be having fun with the material, despite the messy script that has Alice helping people through the plot only for us to find she's just an Umbrella/T-Virus-controlled weapon (or a paraimilitary product) who dies and comes back after escaping a nuclear explosion in Raccoon.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse tries to entrench the film more in its videogame roots with an attempt at the zombie infested city environment of acclaimed game Resident Evil 2. However, the film not only fails in that attempt but in any attempt at a coherent follow up to the entertaining prequel. Mike Epps manages to provide enough laughs to entertain, but the film's incoherent ending turns this into an abomination of cinema.
