Some absolutely superb moments of tension and action which are sadly marred by absolutely cliche and idiot ones. Overall this is a good low-budget thriller that packs some real tension as well as stylish cinematography and isn't just a throw-away direct-to-video thriller that normally come out on such a low budget. I'll certainly be on the lookout for more from Hughes.

Exciting, beautifully crafted little Aussie western is let down by Hughes’ weak, unambitious screenplay which can’t develop its hoary plot in an interesting way; echoes of NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN abound, especially in Lewis’ hall-of-fame chilling avenging angel - in fact the entire well-chosen cast are terrific, with Kwanten proving his value as a leading man, and always effective Bisley in support. So good and so satisfying in so many ways, it makes the screenplay problems even more glaring.

A wee bit over the top, but I was digging the pacing and the scoring.

Some tense and well-paced sequences strewn about make this uneven thriller worth watching.

The weakest part of this film is the storyline. It's cliched and doesn't add anything new to the Wronged Man Revenge film. The cinematography, acting and action are all good as is the music.

A good (albeit terribly unoriginal) little western with decent performances and above average production values.

Begins really well before turning into something too generic and/or too stupid. The western elements are more forced than necessary.

Decent thriller. The cinematography is really good but some of the action bits are dumb and the story is predictable. The last bit of dialogue though is really good and very sad.

"Hughes show chops in setting a mood and carrying out the grisly business of shotgun showdowns and torturous mano a mano sessions..."

Has some fun scenes, but also way too much stupidity.

Definitely some really wonky parts... like, why did he have a boomerang? I'm not sure why some stuff was included. There were some other parts, like the guy missing a bunch of times but it kind of made Jimmy seem protected by divine intervention so I got over it. Maybe I'm looking too into that but it saves the part. Anyway, good performances, not an original plot by any means but told well. Now that I think about it, I think the film is more surrealist than I initially thought. Nice.

Ozzie western with revisionist pretensions which lurches from one cliche to the next and, boy, do they come thick and fast. It veers into preposterous terrain with a subplot involving a black panther. Slightly redeemed by the unusual setting and good photography.

"The Australian high-country setting of this blood-soaked western, brimming with jagged edged rock faces and menacing mountainsides, evokes the genre universe of director Anthony Mann." - Glenn Heath Jr.
