Wes Craven presents a suspense thriller at 30,000 feet. Lisa Reisert (McAdams) hates to fly, but the terror that awaits her on the night flight to Miami has nothing to do with fear of flying. Moments after takeoff, Lisa's seatmate Jackson (Murphy), menacingly reveals that he is an operative in a plot to kill the Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security -- and Lisa is the key to his success. Cillian Murphy's "bad guy" character is absolutely terrible. He accidentally gives information to Rachel McAdams' character multiple times so it's ridiculous to think he's even been doing his "line of work" for any time at all. Also Rachel McAdams meets every single problem she encounters by crying. Hurray for making women look like emotionally uncontrolled fools.

Doesn't quite stick the landing (wink). Starts out good but crashes and burns (wink, wink). Flies a great start until it blows up (nudge). Explodes on impact (nudge, nudge). Nah, they land safely, but then the movie keeps going which is a shame.

Ridiculous. McAdams is kinda hot but the whole thing is just so unbelievably preposterous....and yet deadly serious. Ironically, if this exact script had been shot with a sillier tone, it probably would've been funnier than most of Craven's other attempts at comedy.

Red Eye is a very entertaining film that thankfully understands that it doesn't need to be two hours long to still be entertaining. It has two lead actors with great chemistry, a very sharp pacing which makes sure that we are never bored, enough laughs to keep the mood light despite what's happening throughout, and is just pretty fun overall. It's silly, and it doesn't always make complete sense, but it's very enjoyable and is absolutely worth the 85 minutes it takes to play.

Cillian Murphy was pretty good, but his character went from totally in control, to an incompetent bumbling idiot by the end of the movie. Nothing in it was really original, you could predict every upcoming scene, but it was still engaging, at least for the first two thirds. Once they get off the plane it got quite boring. I know it's PG-13, but it just looks so unnatural when someone gets stabbed in the throat and there isn't a single drop of blood. Decent enough thriller.

She's taking the "red eye" but the airport is jam-packed? She's only got 10 minutes to make her flight but seems pissed when it is delayed? The bad guy can survive an ink pen to the throat and still run? The unintentional comedy saves this movie from being a zero.

McAdams and Murphy have zero chemistry, making the first act a little too awkward, which might have been intentional, but still. Once the actual movie gets underway, their performances get much better. The third act goes off the rails a little but it's still a good conclusion.

Been almost 20 yrs since I first saw this. Was fun to see McAdams, Murphy and Cox two decades younger, but this one misses more than it hits. Not many characters here, but the small and talented cast works the best. Rachel McAdams has innocent enough vibes up until she puts her high-heeled shoe through someone's flesh. The last part was definitely better and more exciting than the rest of the movie as I feel that for the actual plane part, the suspense did not work too well and the plot slowed down too much for its own good.

Murphy's performance is solid, with the impenetrable persona of harmless attractive white guy that acts as the perfect cheat code in a War on Terror era whose paranoias don't involve his kind and leave folks equally unguarded, but as a thriller it lacks momentum and feels too expository, as a political story its too rooted in generic action camp to deliver a point, its attempts to show triumph over misogyny strike as condescending, and the climax is just cartoony and deflates Murphy entirely.

A fun and decently directed suspense thriller and probably as thrilling as you can expect from a PG13 from 2005. In these types of cat-kidnaps-mouse scenario’s where most of the action takes places in 1 isolated, familiar setting, it tends to work if the script, director and characters are always a step ahead of you and not too big of a truckload of disbelief has to be suspended. Red Eye did some of that, but could have been more inventive. Rachel McAdams is delightful, as usual.

Strong performances by McAdams & Murphy are bolstered by a solid premise & tense, claustrophobic atmosphere, but also hindered by a very hamfisted & inauthentic feminist angle as well as humor that doesn't work & detracts from the darker moments quite a bit. This feels like a romantic comedy that was reworked into a thriller, and it definitely comes off as clumsy & undercooked at times, with a few iffy plot points & ridiculous moments. Still, it's not bad & is worth a watch.

Look, all you modern feminists! A strong female character before they became a thing! And charismatic and well-composed even! Before the Emily Blunts and especially before the Gal Gadots of our age of (fake) feminism. Who knew... Joke aside, the chemistry between Murphy and McAdams is STELLAR and the energy and character they put into their performances, in this textbook-perfect example of suspense thriller done right is admirable. A great and gripping journey, masterful execution by Craven.

An engaging thriller that doesn't do much to substantiate its plot, but it's really about the great interplay between Murphy and McAdams anyways. The former shines first as the creepy killer both disturbingly forceful and frighteningly charming, while the latter, with a stab of a pen to the throat, goes full-on badass as the plane touches down, stealing a car, running over a bad guy, and duking it out one-on-one with another, all before telling her jerk hotel customers to shove it up their ass.

This movie sort of took me for a ride. Yes, it has some excellent tension and both Cillian Murphy and Rachel McAdams had some great performances... but this movie kind of disappointed me too. It was hard to rate this because the first half of the film does have excellent tension and you don't know where the movie is going to go. Then you see that this trained killer, Cillian Murphy named Jack Ripner, can't handle threatening a woman who works at a job I used to work at, a hotel...

At the very beginning, one can foresee just how hackneyed and trite this forgettable little drill is going to be. The terrorist plan is 10x more convoluted than it needs to be, and is comprised completely of things that could go awry. There's not a believable, subtle or organic moment in the movie. What makes it tolerable is that sometimes, its leads will be so engaging that one can be soothed into forgetting the decay and banality, which is still present even during its best moments.

Nicely done dialogue-driven suspense -- and half the credits belong to Murphy's remarkable, Scarecrow-like (actually, better than it) performance. UPDATE: such a quick, slick but effective thriller that finds a way to chronicle 9/11 fears and violence against women -- main character survived an assault and promised herself this would never happen again -- in a objective and gripping way.

A genre film that, unusually, seems to have been better-regarded by critics than audiences, perhaps because of the way it is framed (slightly) as a contest between masculine and feminine forms of competence. Brisk but not suspenseful enough, the opening scenes hold promise, but the filmmakers eventually run out of ideas and resort to a standard chase around the house to bring things to a very predictable conclusion.

I highly recommend it if you're having a movie night with beers and mates and shit, where you don't want to watch trash but still want to see something you can kind of talk between and don't need to be 100% focused on. Nice premise but marred by unfathomable character motivations, particularly on the part of the antagonist. If it was 'just a job' why did he make it so personal rather than just walk away? Also some of the fighting skills displayed by a female hotel manager going toe-to-toe with a professional killer are just beyond belief, and I tend to be pretty forgiving with these things in thrillers. Pistols placed too conveniently, timing at the hotel too perfect... the result is total loss of suspense.

Non-descript terrorists aim to blow up the head of the Dept of Homeland Security's family in this slight, but nimble thriller from Wes Craven. He still knows his way around a 'psycho killer chasing a young woman around the house' scene, but it's hard to care by the point, as the movie's grip on reality deplaned about thirty minutes beforehand. Cilian Murphy still has a ways to go before he can assume the lineage of Peter Lorre and Christopher Walken, but it's a start.
