If to exist is to be engaged in processes of collective individuation that produce circuits of transindividuation operating in what Winnicott called transitional space (itself built on the basis of transitional objects of all kinds), then does our mortality consist in a withdrawal from the psychosocial dreams staged in such spaces, a withdrawal initially into a kind of idiosyncratic dream cut off from others, before reassimilating, we might hypothesise, to the original dream of cosmic becoming?

Like all Kurosawa Kiyoshi films, the third act completely derails into a magnificent disaster. Some people will go along for the ride, and others very much won't. I appreciated how deftly our opinions of the characters mutate, or rotate, from sinister to empathetic and back again. And Kurosawa hasn't lost any talent in setting his tone. This is as close to Silent Hill as has been achieved in film, and that's including the Silent Hill movies.
