I cannot believe Shane Carruth was able to take the same source material and make Upstream Color.

In the first scene, a cyclopean boar gores a geriatric, steals a baby in dingo-like fashion, explodes a rustic flat nestled in the bleak bosom of the unforgiving outback, and frames our gored geezer for kidnapping. The only thing sweeter would be a witchetty grub tossed on the barbie and doused in nectar popped from the ass of a honeypot ant.

Mulcahy brought his 80's video clip aesthetic to this derivative horror that was derided for its frenetic cutting, which seems rather conservative today. What is less conventional is the odd Dali-esque style flourishes that are a reminder of a now distant past when even trash peddlers had a solid background in the visual arts. Mulcahy rips off his contemporaries shamelessly, especially Tony Scott and Raimi, and the end result is a passable creature feature that could have been wilder.

A lesser known but actually quite good monster movie starring a huge killer piggy! With some nice monster effects, decent characters and a pretty destinct film/art style, this film should fill you monster movie needs! Don't expect it to be all killer piggies though... the monster isn't over used and some of the "local" types are more than enough to keep you freaked out! Keep you eyes out for a weird nightmare sequence and meat factory reminiscent of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Surprisingly good

Surprisingly beautiful photography. The story is pretty disorganized and can't really decide what it wants to say about animal rights or provincialism or anything else, so instead here's a 1/4 shot of a huge mechanical pig

Oooohh! A giant killer pig killing americans in Australian outback. This ought to be good! . Huge smiles of anticipation slowly fades away and are replaced by *sighs* as the movie simply fails to deliver a reasonable entertainment you come to expect from the movie about killer pig. Some weird-out cinematography helps to keep some attention on the film. In the end Razorback feels like a huge rip-off.

The boar wasn't that scary. The brothers were more of a threat. The movie did a good job portraying the dangers of the Australian outback, though Carl was too lucky to be so close to other people instead of being really stranded. Really let down by what could otherwise have been a fun tense creature thriller. A real boar being pissed off would have been scarier. They didn't even at least have the courtesy to make it campy. Fav scene: hallucinating in the outback.

Surprisingly effective porcine Australian version of _Jaws_. Flashy direction by rock video vet Mulcahy, excellent pacing, welcome homages to Tobe Hooper and Dario Argento, and a briefly glimpsed, though well-executed, title monster designed by Bob McCarron make this an unexpected find.

Mulcahy makes it a movie worth watching. This is his jump from music videos to motion pictures and he brings the best of his music video aesthetic to use in cinematic form. It's a movie full of fog, light diffused through fog, shadows, colors, alternating high and low angles, the best of pop editing applied carefully to create a strong sense of atmosphere.

On paper this film has the makings of a cult classic: a giant monster pig, terrorising tourists in a nightmarish vision of outback Australia. The script is ok too, a simple and effective plot which expands on the terror of "Wake In Fright" (1971) and sends various characters chasing each other off into the night. The big let-down is the execution. The action is poorly shot and edited, and unimaginative, static pig-monster footage destroys any sense of horror, and with it the film's credibility.

I didn't agree with critics on this one. It's highly praised as a horror and even compared with Jaws. Pretty bizarre to me and not too scary.

Lots of really nice outback images, lots of weird characters, all very cliche and predictable, but good fun. Also, note for your own razorback adventure: pigs actually can swim.

Grim images of Australian life pepper this cross between _Jaws_ and the dingo baby case. Not, as they say, for the squeamish.

B-thriller debut from the director of Highlander in which a giant killer boar wreaks havoc in the outback. Pretty damn '80s at points and sometimes badly over-acted, but surprisingly atmospheric with wonderfully picturesque cinematography. Not the most satisfying script, but not predictable either and not afraid to deal hefty blows to its characters. I was getting major Mad Max vibes at points, likely owed to: low budget + Australian + wasteland + bat-crazy brother-truckers.

A disappointment. While Russell Mulcahy makes a visually striking film, he forgets to make it an entertaining and engaging killer pig movie.

Stylish Aussie horror flick which displays the tricks learned by director Mulcahy while directing music videos. It really is beautifully shot - almost Bava-esque and the Aussie outback scenery is also a plus. It's too bad that the film is pretty much style over substance, and the jumpy editing style starts to become tedious. It's not a bad film, and should satisfy genre fans, but it could have been a lot better.

Rips off Evil Dead so shamelessly you won't be able to tell which other horror films it plagiarizes.

Most of the acting is really bad and ad to that that pretty much all the characters are unlikable and this creature feature had an uphill struggle to entertain me. Some of the attack scene were good but there were too many scenes of nothing happening and too little of the actual boar to keep any tension. I'm glad I watched it but probably won't watch it again.
