My kind of low-key B-movie! Pleasance is enjoyable to watch, a Christopher Lee cameo is always welcome and the underground locations are effective. The main draw for me was the great camerawork; the way a shot just glides through the antagonist's lair, letting the whimpering cries in the background sink in while slowly, almost sensuously passing over multiple rotting corpses before focusing on the crying victim before she ..oh god I sound like a complete psychopath don't I?

Worth it for this nice long shot through the cannibal lair. Why can’t cannibals just butcher someone and always just seem to nibble on people leaving the bodies just anywhere. Donald Pleasance is once again a total nutcase, there’s a part where he puts a dart in his tea to get the teabag ignoring any concept of the tea spoon.

When a young couple report the mysterious disappearance of a politician in a London subway station, it leads to a series of murderous confrontations with an inbred cannibal psycho living in an abandoned tunnel. An amusingly preposterous horror story with some grisly gore, and Donald Pleasance is quite entertaining as the quirky police inspector. MIND THE DOORS!

I love how harshly and abruptly this shifts tone. This goes from nutty police caper comedy (with a brilliant turn from Pleasence as the neurotic Inspector) to gore-soaked subterranean horror, and back and forth, lingering on each segment just long enough to completely rope you in. It's a very effective way to hide how brutally simple and uninteresting the actual story really is.

Odd but really neat mix of 70s cannibal exploitation and British dreariness - even in the gorier scenes, there's a sort of grief for a lost empire and failed post-war state. With Donald Pleasence chewing every piece of scenery he can break loose, which just makes the ending that more effective.

Inspector Calhoun was so clearly engineered for boomers to like him (and I'm using boomer as a generic term for annoying old people, I know boomers were actually young back when this came out lmao), so he was insufferable. Besides him, it's interesting how they chose to portray the "creature" with empathy, and how the scenes involving him were so slow and introspective; all in all, I'm surprised by how much I liked this movie, really.

Box Versátil Obras-primas do Terror volume 16.

Gross and dark, not necessarily in a bad way. Donald Pleasence is as unaccountably charismatic as ever.

This film was a 'B' feature at the time and was better than the main film that I do not recall. We still talk about it 40 years later. The main quote from the film is 'Mind the doors' which sends a shudder down my body when I hear it down the tube.
