Painfully lazy and unfunny. It's the game's cutscenes strung together without gameplay to pad the experience and writing catering solely to the youngest of movie enthusiasts.

Ratchet & Clank is like one of those YouTube video compilations showing most of the cutscenes in a video game. But it feels like we're missing 30 meaningful minutes of them, and the dialogue was re-dubbed to appeal to the pre-teens, losing almost all of the intelligence that appealed to the adults in the audience. Ratchet & Clank probably should have been a post-game extra found in the recently released game, not a theatrically released film.

Not not very good but its not trash either its really just a bland, generic kids action film with familiar looking characters having a forgettable adventure.

How does a video game made 15 years prior manage to have more character depth and a more engaging story than a major studio-produced motion picture featuring some of the best voice acting talent available today?

Plays like a film you might stumble upon a screening of in the middle of the school day on a second-rate children's TV channel. Has nothing, except perhaps nostalgia for those who have played the games, to recommend it.

I don't know too much about the game series but I'm aware enough to know that the characters and universe created in the game had a significant amount of potential that's not realised here. To be fair to this I wasn't too interested, but it's far from the worst thing you'll ever see, even if it's benign in every way.

It wasn't good. It has the basic story from the first game, but it was told much better back then. Even the relationship between the two titular characters, which I really enjoyed in the games, was seriously lacking in this one. They also added a few characters that really didn't make it any better. There were a couple of mildly funny moments, and some fun in-jokes for fans, but again, the humour was lacking. The script really just wasn't that great.

A nothing video game movie going out with a clank and not with a bang. I really enjoyed the remake video game based off of this film. I didn't know that by playing the game I would see pretty much every scene from this movie. There were a few parts that were new to me, but otherwise I had seen this movie before. I did love some of the voice acting from James Arnold Taylor and Paul Giamatti but the film itself is pretty underwhelming...

Ratchet and Clank is well-animated and has good voice performances. Unfortunately, the plot is too ordinary. As a game to be played it may be engaging, but it doesn't quite work as a film. All the characters are one-dimensional plot devices. More frustrating still, is that everything in this film is on the cusp of being interesting, but every time it almost is, it manages to slip into the valley of banality. Mediocre dialogue and a lack of depth make it forgettable.

Like a bad meal, it has all the right ingredients in all the wrong proportions, plus the entire thing is somehow both undercooked and overdone.

There's still all the thump-and-tumble slapstick violence, of course, and that's certainly worth families thinking through. But the "dream big and do the right thing" encouragements will leave kids feeling inspired and parents nodding pleasantly. Compare that to some of the other things that might blast the kids at a matinee while making mom spit out her soda in a spray, well, it's a Lombaxian dream, for sure. (pluggedin.com)

As a fan of the series, it was doubly disappointing for a property that's so vivid and full of life be reduced to some kid-and-play low-budget second-run toss-off of an animated movie. The character models and backgrounds are either painfully low-fi or tragically limited in motion, leaving the CGI sterile, and a few fourth-wall winks to the audience won't keep the attention of anyone over 9. You'll be suitably underwhelmed in 2019 when this thing's airing twice a day on Cartoon Network.
