It's a solid little sci-fi flick but given the pedigrees of the people involved I was hoping for more, both Mizushima and Urobuchi have done far better work and a collaboration between the two should have led to far better results. Entertaining for what it is, but I just feel like it could have been so much more.

Much better written than your run of the mill anime with some good action at the finale. Less fan service silliness than you would expect and the main character's arc from loyal, dedicated, hyperachieving System Security agent to rebellious non-conformist is convincingly done. My only problem is the blandness of the character designs. It's 3D CGI made to mimic classic 2D cel animation. They even deliberately lower the frame rate on the mouth movements to get the old school feel.

Honestly a really entertaining, interesting little sci-fi movie, with a lot of interesting concepts. It lost me a little when the climax turned into a mindless action extravaganza, but the rest of it was surprisingly thoughtful and well-paced amidst the carnage. I did find myself a little annoyed by the constant over-sexualization of the lead character, but eh, whatever, that's anime for you.

A pretty nice sci-fi movie complete with me complaining about the main voice actress down to ending up being happy about the latter third's music. Also Urobutcher didn't pull an Urobutcher while still doing an excellent source of writing. I was pleased.
