I don't really understand why they made us watch this movie so many times in grade school. Was the school so overpopulated that they had to promote suicide?

Spoiler warning. A fantasy story told without any fantasy. The true explanation of what actually happened was never fully uncovered, which was both intriguing and a bit frustrating. The story was so grounded in reality that I wanted to know the outcome. Looking back and putting it into the context of a little boy's imagination (or whatever it was) didn't sit well with me 100%. Still, the child actors do a great job, and I enjoyed it overall.

A well-directed movie, but the critics were right to trash it for suggesting fantasy as a mechanism to escape child abuse.

If the next hollywood movie I watch is half as bad as this one, I'm switching to foreign films permanently.

One of my favorites as a kid, the movie goes from sad to very sad as you get older.

I watched this in a high school psychology class, I'm thinking it had to do with disassociation, but all I really remember about it is it has something to do with a white buffalo.

An epic tale of child abuse in the guise of a kids' movie???

Voiced-over by Tom Hanks, but otherwise, this is one sad, depressing movie. And it promotes running away from home.

This is a pretty downer movie. Watching little Elijah Wood and Joseph Mazzello is heartbreaking. For child actors, their performances are excellent.

This was pretty hard to watch when I was younger, and when I see it now, I'm kind of torn. It's almost like there's something mean-spirited about the movie, and I can't put my finger on it. The performances are spot-on, and it's very emotionally involving, but I just felt like the characters (the sympathetic ones, anyway) and the viewer get pummeled repeatedly without any sense of relief or redemption.

Ho-hum. Dreary dreary.
