Quiz Lady

Starts off pretty slow, and not every joke landed for me, but I laughed a lot overall, and it actually ends up being much more sincere and heartfelt than I would've initially expected. Enjoyed it.

Starts off awkwardly as the leads struggle to find chemistry and the jokes hit their buzzers just a little late but it does well to establish its dramatic base without overexplaining, and something clicks after the drugs kick in (Annie's quiz trip is a riot) to set up a last half that's a perfect teary-eyed blend of outrageous comedy and heartfelt hug-your-family relationship arcs (see the charade sisters on a roll ending with shit-in-a-hole). The wacky biopic-esque end credits were a fun touch.

Much to my surprise, I genuinely enjoyed Quiz Lady more than just for a few cheap laughs. Awkwafina plays it subdued, while Oh hams it up. Both actresses do a really good job, even if Oh's is quite annoying. There are plenty of ludicrous moments, which work to varying degrees, but it's the feel-good vibe and commitment to its characters (rather than making them likable or quippy) that makes it enjoyable. Radom Asian men eye-rolling every time Oh's Jenny cries racism is hilarious.

Enjoyable caper that needed some of the more zany-for-no-reason scenes editing out (such as the sisters chasing each other round a car). I enjoyed the running joke where the main characters over-play the race-card...also, kinda nice to see Will Ferrell dial it back abit after almost ruining Barbie!

Not horrible but awfully cliche

Solid, nothing great. And the way things played out, the plot felt stretched. It was never as funny as I wanted it to be.

The funniest part was when they’re driving into Philly and Sandra Oh says without irony, “I always forget how beautiful the city is.”

It has some funny bits but in other places its just not that funny. Still entertaining.

This one had more potential than it delivered. Still a fun little ride.

Plot 13A: Estranged, apparently different siblilngs are thrown into a situation where they're forced to deal with their history and reconnect. Nothing particularly inventive, but some overwound bits notwithstanding, Awkwafina and Sandra Oh have good chemistry and sell both the dumber jokes and the more sincere moments.

There were a few good moments in this comedy with Awkwafina.

I just very much dislike Awkwafina. The story is decent and Sandra Oh plays her character very well,

As generic and frankly insipid as it is, I enjoyed it quite a bit.
