Queen of Hearts

When you make your main character this despicable over the course of the film, you better have a darn good point to make. I felt like Queen of Hearts tried to lure me into liking Anne, only to reveal that she's capable of doing terrible things. But so what? Should I feel bad or culpable for having liked her? Should I feel conflicted about her atrocities because she did some good things as well? I admire the attempt at humanization, but this didn't do it for me.

Frustrating drama feels like it has all its ducks in a row, and for a while you feel like it is leading somewhere, but skimpy writing combined with a marginally impressive though inscrutable performance from Dyrholm, means her motivations and actions are never made clear, especially in the melodramatic third act (it also feels like we are missing a key final conversation between husband and wife). A lack of real chemistry between Dyrholm and Lindh is also a bit of a problem.

Interesting story, well acted, but I failed to understand the motivations of the main character. It was a bit too long as well.

A bold and interesting script, but a sad and rare case of an original being overshadowed by its remake. Chatherine Breillat would re-imagine this in her French "Last Summer" four years later, and while some scenes return verbatim, other stuff was cut out or modified, to an extent that power dynamics between the characters were changed; and Breillat's is clearly a superior version - both the story and the execution.

Such a vile and duplicitous lead….well acted drama that takes into some really f#%ed up territory.

Women can also be sexual predators. Interesting, but fails at delivering quality message about the main topic. Stunning dance scene in the first half.

The subject matter is obviously gross, and I fail to see how this film adds a perspective on it that's even remotely worth exploring. The acting is great, though, and the cinematography is nice.

I don't want to watch two hours of normal yet dreadful facade of bourgeois life so as to see, at the end, its inner deceitful essence. Many other Nordic directors have already achieved this much more brilliantly and masterfully than this one.

The subtlety of the acting, the nuances of the dialogue and the unpredictability of the plot make this a standout.

Worth a watch, especially for Trine Dyrholm's bold role and the subject matter which Hollywood would not touch. I also appreciated that not everything was spelled out, and viewers could make their own minds about character motivations and issues. But at 120 mins+ it is just too long.

Poor man's LUST OCH FÄGRING STOR.

I don't even remotely believe the actions of the main character (though the final five minutes are ace.)

Trine Dyrholm proves once again why she is one of the best if not THE best actress in Europe. She is fearless in this role. For that reason alone worth watching.

I'm left with a small "wow"! Dyrholm is bold, excellent and scary good. Don't watch it alone; if you're like me you want to talk about what you just witnessed. *Good (close to very good)
