One thing I've noticed with European films in 1950 is that there are many great characters put on screen, but the stories don't feel as good. That's definitely true with Quai de Grenelle (1950). The people are fun, but why and what happens doesn't really connect in the same way. I guess it's a 'back to normal' thing after the war had dominated everybody's life the past decade and they're trying to come up with fresh ideas and it becomes somewhat light and not developed enough.
