A few flares of interesting visual techniques and flawless animation can not save a stale story with recycled jokes and a phoned-in ending. Puss's back-story provides for some intrigue and extra-cute moments of him as a kitten, but the writers abandoned the swash-buckling heroics for a silly adventure with Humpty Dumpty that seems to be designed with a theme park ride in mind. Random music and dance numbers add nothing and the dialogue is ridiculously lazy. Totally fails to reach its potential.

Nice animation for a character that was strong enough to make a spin-off for. Too bad they didn't know what they were doing. They made the story as kiddie as possible while including the adult "jokes" which were Pepe Le Pew styles of sexual humor (except the lady cats were into it). It wasn't terrible but I often felt bored, which is bad for a 90 minute movie. Kid's may enjoy it, but it's not better than the many other animated films that you could watch instead.

It slightly resembles spaghetti westerns and maybe, just maybe, some moves from Robert Rodriguez's latin thrillers, but Miller prefers the DreamWorks' silly way to tell the story with more gags than his characters can handle, chaotic musical numbers -- this is what ruined the Shrek franchise -- and a fantasy that sparkles in visuals and action sequences, but delivers uninteresting treasures.

Disappointing. Galifianakis cannot save the abysmal character that is Humpty Dumpty, and the plot unspools like a checklist of unaware action movie cliches. Most damning, few laughs were had.

The decision to include Humpty, whose character basically boils down to "EGG" (I felt like even the golden goose was more fleshed out as a character), is a bit baffling. Have Dreamworks run out of fairy-tales? Anyway, Puss is surprisingly engaging on his own and the chemistry between him and Kitty carries the film pretty well despite the fact that the plot is overall forced. OK 3D, and some great action/western sequences. I'd probably recommend it, but more for the kids than for yourself.

Most spin-offs fall flat, but this wasn't bad. Puss In Boots was one of the best characters from Shrek. It surpasses Shrek 2 - 4 by quite a bit, but falls short of the first. It's a fun adventure movie, with some funny and cute moments. The plot was good enough to sustain 80 minutes (unlike some of the other Shrek movies). They didn't completely overuse the fairy tales either. Zach Galifianakis and Salma Hayek were a good addition to the cast. It's also nice to see some background for Puss.

Surprisingly good for a spin off! Superb animation and really nice cat-like details as well as an awesome voice cast made this movie really worth watching. Also, I kinda enjoyed watching the cat without Shrek and his lot being present...

I don't even know why I watched this. I dislike vast majority of Hollywood animations and there wasn't anything promising about this one. No surprises. Flat story, dumb jokes that aren't funny, most of the film is just computer generated images images jumping, exploding and chasing each other. What's up with all the sex stuff, kids watch this for fucks sake. Pointless waste of time.

It's no real surprise that by far the best movie of the Shrek franchise is also the first not to have the irritating, poorly voiced green fuckwit in it! 'Puss in Boots' sags a bit in the middle, but genuinely has some great laughs, particuarly in its first & last quarters. The animation & voice acting is all good also, with the script sitting somewhere between DreamWorks at their terrible condescending worst and their recent much improved best efforts of the last couple of years. Enjoyable.

Sets a strong Shrek-like tone - as you would expect - lighthearted with some decent gags and impressive animation. Admirably it does away with the pop-culture references that had become the bane of that franchise. Things work well until after the goose is stolen, when the story just seems to give up and rush to its conclusion. Would probably garner a slightly higher score but for this lazy final act, and becomes yet another largely forgettable Dreamworks production in the process.

I appreciate the very first part, the most western-alike one. That's maybe just 10 minutes, and that even make me thought "probably is not so bad as I thought it would be". But sadly, after that it started to decay, and specially since the flashback to Puss childhood everything is lost the rest of the movie. Just a not that good adventure movie, not specially good as a comedy, too childish, boring, but of course, having great CG graphics.

Waaaaaaaaaay better than the last two Shrek movies were. Entertaining enough, straight fairy tale heist movie really. Still not as good as the first two Shrek's. Let's just hope that Dreamworks realises the universe isn't a golden goose and stops laying film after film before they all go rotten.

Once removed from an already quirky series, this one feels extra offbeat with its vaguely Spanish/Mexican setting mixed with fairy tale characters and giant geese. I enjoyed it for its weirdness, but the plot is somewhat forgettable. There are some funny character moments, though Humpty is a pretty terrible character without any redeeming qualities, as much as they try to force it.

Puss in boots is one of the most zell-rounded animation characters. I watched this with my kid, and neither of us got bored. The quality of the animation was great by itself. There was not much of a story and some dance sequences zere awkward; but since the music really rocked(It was made by Rodrigo y Gabriela and they are dynamite) I didn't mind.

I think I probably liked it better than Shrek Forever After (2010) and maybe Shrek the Third (2007) too. The film really kinda felt like they just remade Desperado (1995) but replaced Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek's characters with cats. Not so much in the plot, of course, but just in some of the feel of the film. It had a few cute, funny moments. I was also impressed with the animation - particularly how they managed to convey human expressions. Nice enough film, but ultimately forgettable.

It's DreamWorks, which means it's pretty conventional and uninspired. More plotty than funny, and it re-uses (or apes) a bunch of business from more successful fare from earlier this year, like "Rango" and the fourth "Pirates" movie. My kids thought it was okay; I thought it was labored, passive, and cliched. Not that great-looking, either.

Planned on checking out the sequel, but had never seen the original front to back. Well constructed humour in an overall enjoyable little romp. Drags a bit in the middle despite only being roughly 80 mins total sans credits. A worthy feature for kids and adults alike. Looked great on the oled in dv as well. 7.4

I’d say this is at least the third best of the five Shrekiverse movies I’ve watched (haven’t seen the sequel yet) and arguably surpasses Shrek 2 to be second best. Yeah the action scenes are mostly the same doofily kinetic DreamWorks stuff but the combination of Zorro spoofing (with Zorro’s actor) and cat jokes definitely won me over.

Agreeable SHREK spin-off never reaches the heights of the best moments of the earlier franchise (Puss is probably a better subject for a spin-off than Donkey), but it’s a fun (and surprisingly witty) ride, aided by Banderas’ always wonderful enaction of the Puss persona, matched by a dryly sardonic Hayek. Galifianakis’ whiny Humpty is an odd tangential addition, and never quite works or fits with the rest of the film, dragging things down from time to time.

BRRIP RARBG

It already was a poor unfunny movie with an phoned in plot, until a ridiculous plottwist which moved it into bad. Puss in Boots is a character that's fun side character in the Shrek movies, but can't carry this movie. And (most) other characters are even more annoying, most of all Humpty Dumpty.

It's certainly charming for what it is, but I guess, it's a case of "it is what it is" as in it's a spinoff to a franchise that latest entries were mediocre at best. I think the story and writing are fine for what they are, but Puss wasn't that deep of a character to begin with, he was just a cute cat who said a funny thing or two. Like I said, it's charming and adorable, but it begins to be a slog fest because it's not an easy character to write a feature length film for.

The only positive thing that came out of the awful Shrek sequels was the Puss in Boots character, and so it's fitting that that this is the best Shrek film since the original (though that's not a huge accomplishment.) It turns out Puss has enough charisma to carry a movie of his own, even if they have to start re-using jokes by the end. The story had an above-average level of depth to and maturity to it for a kid's film, that was offset by some pretty juvenile (and slightly problematic) humour.

Pretty disappointing - as could be expected as the Shrek franchise is much like a squeezed-out lemon. I had a few laughs, but the story was terrible, the 3D-stuff lacking and there were no moments at all where I marvelled at anything - be it animations, humour or plot twists. The only exception - as, again, could be expected - were the excellent animations of cats.

Antonio Banderas reprise his role as the bold and cunning puss in boots.he is very much the only actor that has suitable voice over for this beloved character. even though "Puss in Boots" was far from a spectacle that the first shrek movie was, but it has enough charm and hilarious joke to make this a delightful movie to watch even without children by your side.

Antonio Banderas and Zach Galifanakis deliver as two intriguing characters leading the audience through a world of fairytale farce and whimsical absurdity. The absurdity, unfortunately, takes an astonishing nose dive at the so-obvious-a-six-year-old-could-spot plot twist that even the writers realized inferior by their attempt to mock it as its revealed.

I was cautiously optimistic about Puss in Boots upon release, and I'm glad I held my expectations in check. This film has a solid story and beautiful animation. However, there comes times when it feels bloated and other times where there's not much depth to the characters. Antonio Banderas turns in another wonderful performance as the titular cat, but Puss in Boots as a character doesn't have enough material to make a worthwhile spin-off.

Puss in Boots is a success, in large part because, despite what I previously though, I'm not tired of the Zorro cat just yet. Maybe if they make a sequel I will, but for now, I'm content sitting here and laughing at his antics. The new characters help freshen things up from the stale cast of the last couple of Shrek movies, and it's pretty funny for people of all ages. It's the best movie of the franchise since the second, and at this point, I wouldn't even be upset if they made another one.

As far as Dreamworks movies go... this was pretty bland. The story wasn't very compelling and it felt more like a cartoon you would see on tv instead of it being a feature film. I did think the voice acting was really great, especially from Zach Galifianakis. I also thought the animation was just as wonderful as any other Dreamworks film. One of my favorite parts was the Dance off Fight and the closing credits of the movie was one of the most creative things I've seen as far as credits go.

I feel like we're at a point in this movement where there's a real streak of laziness in relation to integrating adult humor into the work; more and more the films play out like charts of mathematically calculated demographic appeasement. This also has to be the first time I've actually noticed a failure to emulate proper perspective in an animated film. Still, I have to give the movie credit for making me laugh really hard at one gag in particular, which ain't easy to make me do.
