Puppet Master II

I liked the parts where there were puppets doing stuff. There is a lot of not puppet stuff in this. Im just saying 90s boobs were the best boobs, some Roger Ebert scholar play here.

Not as bland as the original, which was a relief. It's still bad in oh so many ways, but at least this time there was a Darkman-looking villain that turns himself into a 50's lounge singer and one of the puppets is a mini Nazi with a flamethrower.

Paranormal researches are less interesting people than psychics, at least judging from the first two, very similar, Puppet Master films. I liked original film because it has that 80's charm, and fun human characters. Flamethower-nazi puppet is nice addition to the family, though I'm very disappointed Tunneler was killed of... Overall, bland and silly movie.

This slimly plotted sequel boasts more great FX work, but dull characters (apart from the always terrific Talbot) and a slow pace make it seem longer than it is. Funniest scene: Bernsen's (brother of "L.A. Law" star Corbin) bare-assed battle with flame-thrower.

All that distinguishes this sequel from the original is the addition of some new puppets with different and gory ways of killing. They, unlike the remainder of the cast, are effectively animated.

Even though this one didn't really go along with the other movies it was by far my favorite. It introduced Torch and had a better plot with a mysterious stranger that lives in the house.

The first one was more interesting as a movie, this one kinda just exists, I guess.

While this is still about as good as it gets for Full Moon, the second "Puppet Master" movie is, unsurprisingly, not quite as good as the first, though only marginally. Yet the reason for that is not some kind of strict adherence to quality, but that the precedent set by the initial installment didn't leave the series very far to fall. The hiccup here is to transition the puppets into actually being closer to the villains, a role that's a little too predictable for them.

We need to know what happened to the lady at the end. It's been 32 years now.

Plenty of cool puppet action (as always extra points for IMMOLATION) and welles delivers a solid B-movie horror villain performance, particularly when he is unmasked the makeup is TOP NOTCH and he oozes nastiness in those final scenes. However the dialogue is beyond cliche to the point of being BROKEN. characters pick up and drop topics unnaturally, talk of LIVING MURDER PUPPETS is abandoned in a single sentence without being discussed, "romantic" lines are dropped on a dime, etc.

Kind of like EC comics, it's appeal is mostly to the one demographic that probably won't be allowed to see it: children. The whole thing plays out like an exceptionally gory and tawdry episode of Nickelodeon's Are You Afraid of the Dark. If you're 10, and sneaking around behind your parents' back to watch a horror movie, it's probably the shit. The plot is actually pretty fun, though.
