Someone needs to do a modern remake of this with fat old Christian Slater posting angry rants to his blog for 90 minutes. I loved this film at the time but age and cynicism have dulled the shine.

Exactly as good and heavy-handed as a movie in 1990 about a pirate radio high schooler can be. Plus, Samantha Fox's boobs!

Christian Slater pioneers podcasting / live streaming 15-20 years ahead of the curve. I’m sitting here watching like, wtf, I put tons of sarcastic and semi-nihilistic ranting about school and life out there as a teen, and I never became INFAMOUS ALL TOWN OVER for it. But I guess I never took callers, and my hair wasn’t so fly as Christian’s. Tune in for Samantha Mathis’s boobs; stay tuned for the scene where a teacher full-on SLUGS a student in the face on school grounds.

Teenage rebellion at it's best! Awesome soundtrack. Christian Slater used to have such cool roles... what happened?

Why are the kids in this school in their mid 20's??? (Points given/taken away if you know the reference)

This movie inspired me to get my first cock ring when I was 14, and I haven't taken it off since. On a totally unrelated note, does anyone have a good set of bolt cutters I can borrow?

While this is supposed to be set in Arizona it's unfortunately filmed in California. I feel gypped. AZ would have made a great backdrop for this film. The high school used was Saugus High though which did have a school shooting. Decades later and kids are still killing themselves and others while feeling hopeless and alone.

I remember loving this as a teen. On rewatching, now that I'm an old grouch, I just wanted those kids to pump it down. I mean, waaay down. I still dig the soundtrack, though.

This film is HIGH FIDELITY / 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU, a dark and brooding drama about the struggle of youth in the public school system as seen through the eyes of a DJ on public radio.

Very cool teenager movie. The lead role plays to Christian Slater's strengths and he really runs with it. Also, I have a new reason why I wish I was a teen in the 80's: pirate radio stations. Can't believe those were a thing.

I recall a really bizzare scene involving a girl putting pearl necklaces in a micro.

Slater is terrific. Though uneven, this does have some pertinent things to say that you don't always find in a youth-appeal film.

Pump Up the Volume, an exceedingly well-written teenager-full-of-angst melodrama about a high school student who operates a pirate radio broadcast that criticizes parents and teachers while revealing the turmoil of adolescence.

This film is overblown and clumsy in many respects, from the two-dimensional overly simplified authority figures to the badly delivered message about the all-corrupting media consuming and distorting everything. It does have a lot going for it though; Slater has moments of brilliance and his smoldering sexiness of later years is starting to become very evident indeed. Despite its faults I can help but like it, a lot.

Slater elevates an otherwise by-the-numbers 80's high school flick.

Standard low level teen rebellion gick. I've scraped a more intense experience from the sole of my boot.

Watch this, and then go watch Alone in the Dark, THEN ask yourself what happened?

Probably better than most teen angst films, with a pretty good soundtrack to boot.

Christian Slater is an annoying idiot who listened to Bill Hicks, which I guess was also me in high school? This movie gets credit because Samantha Mathis is a really cute punx in it and the soundtrack is actually pretty good.

I enjoyed this movie as a teenager and I still like it today. Christian Slater is good in the lead role. This is an underrated film that you don't hear talked about very often

This typifies a movie franchise which profiteers from that monolithic mass of American teenagers rallied around the flag of non-conformism.

Pretty unexceptional teen rebellion dramedy...Slater is in full on mini-Nicholson mode and everything is 100% predictable from the first moment, but it has a few laughs and the first mainstream film reference to a cock ring that I can think of.
