Using the Greek legend of Prometheus to study man's use and abuse of fire, fuel and technology, Harrison takes us on a European odyssey; from the Yorkshire mining pits to Greece, via Auschwitz and a Romanian carbon factory. Mocking us through Hermes, messenger of the gods, he underlines the pitiful plight of socialism and humanity, squandered for the sake of 'future technology'. (film4.com)

While tending to glorify Prometheus's revolutionary disobedience to tyrannical Zeus, by forgetting as usual the crucial role of Epimetheus, as well as Pandora (a voiceless Io being the only female character), it is incredible for this viewer to think that a journey across Europe and through history, as a summation of civilisation up until the end of the 20th century, was conducted under the sign of Prometheus in 1998, and this film-poem does indeed provide much to ponder. Even Baile Herculane!
