A bunch of hip teens (who each happen to make terrible cinematographers) build a time machine out of an Xbox 360 and a Prius, and go back in time to Lollapalooza, where the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

I don't watch time travel-themed movies for accurate scientific representations of what truly happens when timelines fold over on themselves creating irreparable temporal rifts that ultimately result in the collapse of this universe and the infinite multiverses connected to it. I watch them for the wonky ways the time travelers wield their gift, and I have to say getting stage access to a Lollapalooza performance by buying used passes off of ebay from the future is ridiculously acceptable.

Seeing as this was produced by MTV films, these kids should have used the time machine to go back in time and prevent MTV from becoming such a piece of shit channel.

I just watched a documentary where a filmmaker criticizes Hollywood's conservatism in choosing whether to fund movie projects with creative yet risky ideas. The best way to get a new movie made, he says, is to combine two previous ideas: "It's (title of film) meets (title of film)." Project Almanac is one of the more glaring examples: It's Chronicle meets Generic Time Travel Movie. Teenagers enjoy time travel until teenagery things happen. The final act did have tension, but too little too late.

It's more or less Project X if that was about a science fair project. The same bunch of irresponsible teens, the same thoughts of 'man, I should've done more fun things when I was young' while watching, and the same sense of emptiness once the credits roll. Teases you with possible people-merged-into-the-walls shit and never gives you any. Also, this movie passes off 2004 as if it's The Distant Past and that made me irrationally angry at the slow, crushing march of time. Where's my dentures?

Whatevs, Internet! I still dun give a fuuuuuuck! This movie is like a teen adventure version of Primer mixed with a dash of "initially well-intentioned science guy fucks things up real bad" Breaking Bad flavor. I enjoyed it.

If 'Project Almanac' played by its own logic and didn't spend what felt like a whole act dedicated to a concert party scene, it might have gotten somewhere. For the awful and dated found footage genre, the format wasn't so distracting as to take away from the story as other features have been. With that said, the movie never takes flight and never does anything much of interest.

A teen time travel film, where teen's do exactly what teens would do with time travel. It's well thought out and well planned out. 10/10 would watch again :D

mostly not boring. kind of obnoxious characters. don't think i'd rewatch it, but it was fun enough once. shaky cam is not my favorite but i stopped noticing it so much eventually. the technobabble is quite silly. the whole thing was pretty silly, really. the music festival part was fairly tedious.

This movie is surprisingly good. It has a different shooting method, it feels amateur and vertiginous at the beginning. However, this adds reality to the story and take you into it.

great premise and style, lacking substance. a good and entertaining watch, but for a time travel movie fan it would leave you with the taste that for such a great idea, the movie should have been better than what we got.

It is the nerdy version of Project X and 21 and Over, designed by MTV to make hipster relevant and to plaster a display that shows all American teenagers car about is sex, fast cars and autotune. It pains a negative picture and squanders the oppurtunity to have nerd characters actually make real change. Instead we reduced to time jumps, character manipulation and scenes where the lead caracter bends time simply to lose his virginity. Well played MTV, I see where your head is at.

Project Almanac is your standard tale of discover/build a time machine, use said machine for personal gain, spiral consequences. I liked the small scale gain which worked well with the high school motif. And the actors are all pretty likeable. Where this movie let me down was the way the spiralling consequences were dealt with. It felt too contrived. Also I wasn't a fan of the shaky-cam, especially fitting it into the narrative, but that is easily overlooked. Overall, a mixed-bag.

Fairly enjoyable, but the decisions made by the characters will likely make you cringe, especially since they are apparently geniuses. It's also strangely predictable for a movie about time-travelling, but at least the premise was neat.

The movie posits that physical attraction is the real basis for a good romantic relationship, with sex being its natural (and beautiful) culmination. It sees stealing school propertylocked up for a good reasonas just good fun. And even as Adam says that something like a time machine should be used to help people, not to "party," the movie's vibe seems to disagree. (pluggedin.com)

Project Almanac is entertaining and it works a lot better than I had expected/feared.
You would say it mostly resembles a mix of Chronicle and The Butterfly Effect, so if you like either of those films, you ought to give Project Almanac a shot.

NO!!! This was a really good idea, but ruined. Most of the plot was ruined by the trailer itself. A guy builds a time machine after not getting enough scholarship money to go to MIU. But after they use it for selfish purposes, bad things happen.
I don't recommend this. It's not action at all, and it's not a thriller. Don't let the trailer fool you. Highly disappointed. No plot twist, too predictable, the ending is open for interpretation as it was confusing to comprehend. Avoid.

Annoying and unlikeable characters somehow manage to make time travel boring. Also, the movie breaks one of it's own time travel rules in a way that's extremely central to the movie and it is also really obvious, and continues on to make a bigger mess out of the time rules.

Standard fare for these teen found footage films. Not as bad as I expected - similar to Chronicle only less super powers and more time travel. Moronic plot that hinges on nothing, and all of the action starts happening in the last 20 minutes.

Euhm, I thought it was going to be better... Project Almanac had a lot of potential, but doesn't live up to it. I can deal with a slow pace, just as long as it leads to a good ending. This one never reached any high points. A little bit sad, I must admit. 49/100.

While the events don't develop in a way that will shock anybody, this is a more personal look at time travel. The "found footage" way in which it was filmed actually heightens the intimacy of it, and it is more focused on the relationships of the teens than anything else. It doesn't have any breakout stars, and could shorten certain scenes, but it's solid film making. In my eyes, judging from the way it has been received so far, it will go down as an underrated movie.

Marter, gotta disagree with that review, sir! While I'm sure there will be slow moments for some, the movie takes a somewhat-practical approach to time travel (that being, short periods of time vs. "I'm going back to the 40's to kill Hitler"), and the handi-cam filming style is approached in a logical (if a little cornily-direct) way ("From now on, you film everything"). I found this interesting, certainly enough that it kept my attention. It didn't set the world on fire, but I did enjoy it.

Project Almanac is a mundane waste of time that doesn't really get going until far too late, and even at that point, it never actually manages to get good. It story plods along and is a joke, its time travel scenes aren't that interesting, it contradicts its only purposeful theme at the end, and the found footage style in which it was shot works to its detriment. Project Almanac wastes your time, and even goes so far as to remind you that better movies exist that you should watch instead.
