It's easy to see how this might irritate the hell out of some viewers. Writer/director Julio Torres has a pretty unique voice; he mixes real issues with clever visuals and amusing comedic style and I was mostly on-board. It doesn't all work and some threads go nowhere. Swinton's role was somewhere between funny and annoying. I also thought that the epilogue was not needed, and the film ran a bit too long, but overall this felt fresh and it will be interesting to see what Torres does next.

Torres' directing made a film that's ultimately about a guy trying to get his Visa by helping someone sell art a lot more kinetic and energetic than it had any right to be. In all technical aspects this is great. I didn't laugh as much as Torres clearly wanted me to, but this is also one of those movies where the script is clever enough where it can get away with not being as funny as intended. It was never boring, is what I'm trying to say.

Problemista is beautiful - it’s simple in scope, but executed with such creativity and attention to detail. It’s easy to watch without being too easy - hilarious scenes unfold into those which prod at the bleak reality for so many. And lastly, the two main characters, Ale and Elizabeth, probably one of the most unlikely pairs I’ve seen in film seem to play off each other so well in that beautiful way that fleshed out characters with top notch acting do.

I didn't connect with everything that Torres is doing here, but it's such an eccentric and personal vision that I couldn't help liking it. This is really Swinton's film. She's someone who can never wait for anything and is always right no matter what the issue. If you argue her into a corner, she'll just change the subject. (One small wonderful touch is that her smart phone's flashlight is on in every scene.)

The movie benefits from Tilda Swinton's outstanding performance and Julio Torres's fresh, innovative storytelling. While the emphasis on comedy may overshadow some of the more emotional moments in the film, the unique premise and well-crafted humor make "Problemista" a memorable and enjoyable experience. The movie's success also serves as a reminder of the importance of nurturing and supporting diverse talent in Hollywood.

Too off-beat for me, I guess. It took me countless attempts to finish it.

Delightfully inventive, credibly merging the fantastical with the absurdity of the real world. Microcosmically touching at times, aided by a wonderful score by Robert Ouyang Rusli. Tilda Swinton is a hoot, and Julia Torres gives Rachel McAdams a run for her money in terms of funniest delivery of the phrase “oh no.”

i deeply sympathise with torres's agambenian "i would prefer not to" attitude, i just have to say that i already ate the leftovers of this film from fantasmas and then discovered the maindish :-/

I knew I was going to hate this within minutes but tried to see if it would improve. It continued to get worse so by 20 min in I wanted to stab myself in the ears and eyes.

While the premise isn't highly original, the film has a strong sense of style, great music, and the lead performances and chemistry are highlights. As a first feature it shows promise, even if the style doesn't always fully deliver and it gets a bit repetitive. Overall it's a funny, ambitious and endearing film. score: 6.5/10

More films should be this imaginative in their scope. I could see how they composed that stairway of offices, and it just goes to show you how that watching something over and over again is how you can create an effect.

What a lovely, inspiring movie. It might not be immaculate on a technical level, nor is the script groundbreaking, but it made me so happy. :)
