Frankie Terris and Mannie Robbins are the two most powerful gangsters in their city. Frankie has a young sister, Louise, whom he has kept at a boarding school away from the stench of his racketeering. Mannie's young son, Joe, is also ignorant of his father's profession. Louise and Joe meet, and Joe tries to make love to her. Frankie interrupts and, in a fight that follows, kills Joe. Mannie vows to get Frankie. (imdb)

A rare super low budget movie from the 1930s that actually manages to take advantage of it's limitations using noir style effects with shadows and angels to enhance it's storytelling. For all the cheap movies that was made during the decade of the 30s very few actually tried to experiment in that way. While it's far from a perfect movie, Prison Train still manages to build suspense with it's style and dark surroundings and sure is a positive curio from 1938 were Clarence Muse gets a good part!
