Effective and understated portrait doesn’t really explore the “trans experience” of de Souza’s lead in any meaningful way, but as a bittersweet romance, it’s engaging and effective enough, with de Souza herself anchoring the film with a compelling authenticity that holds the film together; indeed some of the best moments involve simple close observations of her day, interspersed with a lively view of Spanish street life that almost outdoes Almodovar! No world beater, but well worth seeking out.
