An emotionally unstable pregnant woman? WHAT SCIFI MADNESS IS THIS?!

Mentally unstable pregnant woman does things that mentally unstable viewers are most likely to find as mildly amusing as their mildly seasoned Doritos, now with 6 exotic herbs and spices (of which 5 are paprika). If black humor delivered British-ly fresh in a pan that is dead is what sends your loins for a loop, Prevenge will scratch that itch. If you accidentally stumbled upon this movie, thinking it would be horror, you may want to continue your search under Mary-Kate and/or Ashley.

Intriguing setup that has some great moments before fizzling out into a rather obvious rationale and a clumsy metaphor ("We had to make that cut" indeed). But nice to see a pregnancy horror story that isn't based on a man going "WOMEN MAKE TINY PEOPLE WOAH THAT'S SO DISTURBING".

This really worked for me. Not all of it was perfect, but the dry humor was on point and the pacing was super fast, which I greatly appreciated. This isn't a movie that wastes time. It also has a pretty impressively deep story & brings up a number of moral dilemmas to complicate our heroine's journey. Alice Lowe's performance is terrific. The ending did feel a bit clunky to be honest, but it didn't ruin my overall enjoyment. Had a lot of fun with this one.

Definitely not your average slasher flick, that's for sure.

It's a neat idea but it feels a but unfinished, like an extended improvisation.

Whelan scene has the highlight in an otherwise rather down-tempo black comedy that touches on the sense of abandonment suffered by some pregnant women. Prevenge is gruesome enough, and has plenty of wit, but also has too many moments of awkward in-between to be enjoyable.

It's almost high-concept, unborn baby prompts mother to go on a killing spree. The first couple of victims are so creepy, it feels like the baby is making the world a better place, but the story gets more complex. Excellent performance from Alice Lowe, who also wrote and directed, while seven months pregnant.

Prevenge, it is like Looks Who's Talking—Kind of. Prevenge was far bloodier then I thought it would be. Which is funny because I watched it to change the pace of my recent Hooptober viewings that were gory. The gruesomeness works well for this black comedy because you don't need to find it funny to be entertained. I laughed a decent amount, but if it wasn't for the other pieces, I wouldn't have liked it as much.

Enjoyable, keep-it-simple meta-slasher film about a woman and her influential foetus. The film doesn't have a lot of overall structure, it's sort of "start with a woman in a pet shop and see where things go" film-making. Alice Lowe embodies the "unstable everywoman" character with passion, never seeming too clever or too dim. It's a refreshing style, I think. The flashback story was contrived, but tied in well in the end. There are some cool interviews online about how quickly this was made.

Prevenge is a dark one alright, and probably won't be to everyone's taste. It is original though, and dead-pan funny, not to mention bloody, so if they are your boxes, consider them ticked.

Great fun. I think it may have been slightly more interesting near the beginning where it appeared that Ruth was a self-styled moral arbiter of vengeance, but to be honest it remains funny and well observed throughout.

Has an original theme with a great opportunity for social commentary and achieves to do that especially at the beginning, when she seems to kill randomly depending on her victims' level of social annoyance and their behaviour towards her. But when the story turned out to be a melodramatic revenge which has its climax when she faces with an ethcal dilemma of killing a to-be father, it lost me. It lost me because its premise of wild excess and a-moral rebel against society is severely damaged.
