In Paris a leading theatre impresario is murdered on opening night, shortly after replacing his leading lady. A police Inspector in the audience takes over the investigation. The film was shot at Elstree Studios. It was a close remake of the 1937 Austrian film Premiere and re-used a number of musical scenes from the original which were dubbed into English.

I premiered 2021 with Premiere (1938), a British remake of the Austrian hit Premiere (1937). Not seen the original, as I'm still waiting to find one with English subtitles for that one, but my hopes for it lowered after watching this clumsy British one. I'm sure Géza von Bolváry put more care and effort into his production, but the British one starring John Lodge never became more than a mildly amusing potboiler struggling to become anything more meaningful.
