Posse

Most of "Posse" takes place in a town that never feels right; none of the characters get developed beyond the superficial. The film wants more than action, but it doesn't happen.

Marshal Nightingale (Kirk Douglas), with the help of his titular posse, tracks down and captures fugitive Jack Strawhorn (Bruce Dern), planning to use this as fuel for his senatorial campaign. But Strawhorn isn't so easily defeated. When it focuses on the cat-and-mouse maneuvering of the two leads, it's a pretty sharp little Western, well directed by Douglas and benefiting from Dern's sprightly performance. When it tries for a political message, though, it's heavy-handed--and says nothing new.

What a awful ending.

Kirk Douglas + Bruce Dern = fun times to be had.

I like Kirk, but not that much.
