Tetsuro Tamba portrays Kotaro Takamura, one of Japan's most celebrated artists. A poet and sculptor, Takamura is married to Chieko (Shima Iwashita), who has artistic aspirations of her own. She gradually comes to realize that her husband has all the talent in the family; as she sinks deeper into depression, Takamura tries to comfort her by writing several poems in her honor. She descends into insanity, while Takamura manifests his despair into some of his greatest artistic achievements. (Rovi)

Very hard to rate, Movie competently & well done but on face value not high score I've given (a 72?) -yes it's true story but (as far as I know) no Hollywood historical 'enhancements'. Seen in tandem with (famed) poetry of hubbie scenes perfectly encapsulate poems & becomes heartbreaking when those poems are read - getting Eng subs may be hard, Cast + but it's Chieko's tale so Shima Iwashita has to make it work & she does. Must be watched & poetry read (not a slog, is on 'net) simultaneously.
