Two dramatic stories. In an undeterminated past, a young cannibal (who killed his own father) is condemned to be torn to pieces by some wild beasts. In the second story, Julius, the young son of a post-war German industrialist, is on the way to lie down with his farm's pigs, because he doesn't like human relationships. (imdb)

The first half hour is barely tolerable - the dialogue between Leaud and Wiazemsky is so silly and pretentious that it seems like a parody of Godard. The rest of the film is better: the cannibal sequences are well-shot and interesting and the interaction between the two aging industrialist is, pig-fucking innuendo aside, aptly snide and amusing. Not Pasolini's best by a long shot, but for fans of his work it has some interesting moments.

BlurayRip no MakingOff.

two mostly unrelated stories, one relating to cannibalism and the other to bestiality. yup. it's filled with interesting political tidbits, too. but this time it's harder to discern overall meaning - though the ending hints at something - and it doesn't quite have the comedic tinge of hawks and sparrows either. or an awesome song. but there's always a self-acknowledged pomposity in pasolini's (later) films that i find immensely enjoyable.

While Pasolini's films have a tendency to seem like lectures, they are seldomly uninteresting, and neither is this one. Unlike most people, who seem to favor the story set in current time, I find both stories equally interesting and capably handled. Pasolini is a hard director to like, but not impossible.
