There's this rotoscoping, 3-D background effect work that's so cool it makes the incessant rhyming tolerable, if not a little cheeky. Popeye looks like my Grandpa and he taught me to eat spinach and he was in the service during the Cold War, so, Who's the Greatest One of All?... Popeye, The Sailor!

An excellent cross-section of everything that made the original Fleischer Popeye cartoons great. Fleischer Studios loved using 3D backgrounds and always drew their characters solid yet fluid, never afraid to draw them in drastic perspectives or vary the amount of detail as appropriate.

Every Popeye is essentially the same: It looks like someone is stronger than him, but turns out, it's Popeye who is strongest. Sindbad's song is, however, kind of catchy.

Is it wrong that I like Sinbad more than Popeye?

Popeye: "I'm Popeye the Sailor Man, Popeye the Sailor Man, I'm strong to the finich, cause I eats me spinach, I'm Popeye the Swab-Wailor Man!"

The animation is quite charming, though I find the quiet muttering Popeye does throughout kind of annoying if I'm honest.

This one's a complete classic. Interesting in that it's quite a bit longer than the usual theatrical short, but the story never drags.
