Yes, friends, this is the only movie I've seen and rated in 3 weeks. I don't know either.

I THINK this was the worst one, but I could be wrong. Feel free to substitute this review for any of the other 19 entries in this series.

Interestingly enough, the Police Academy series gets five deep and finally decides to drop any semblance of a plot, and ends up being just as crappy as the rest. Normally, you'd think that'd bog a movie down, but Police Academy takes it in stride and keeps this movie on par with the other inane and moronic outings previously created.

As the series degenerates towards its final utterance, the slow decay continues as you'd have expected. While the stupid characters and childish humour has its moments, the sheer repetition of jokes and sequences soon wears down the entertainment value. Coupled with a muddled plotline and some questionable pacing, it eventually feels like the muddled brainchild of Mr Bean and a hamster. As the films run out of new ideas for characters, it leaves you wondering how long before Mr Blobby shows up.

People say this movie (hell, this whole series) is stupid. They are right. I think they're stupid, yet funny. Heck, I've been laughing at stupid people my whole life, so my enjoyment of Police Academy pictures is a perfectly logical progression of the same attitude

If Steve Guttenberg can't be bothered, why should we? Like an electric drill to the temple, it surely is on loop on one the screens in Hell.

(Viewed on 31/03/12): P.A 5 is so dire that it makes one reevaluate Steve Guttenberg, who was at least smart enough to move on. His replacement, McCoy, has zero charisma, and his character was a bad idea, a straight guy in an insane world who looks out of place rather than providing an effective counterpoint to the chaos around him. The kidnapping plot wasn't a terrible idea, and there is some amusement in watching Gaynes play along, but clumsy staging and a lack of laughs seal its fate.

Everyone loves Police Academy movies for the cheap jokes, but almost no one wants to admit to it. Also, this is the first movie without Steve Guttenberg, showing that the stars do not make these movies go.

What little the previous 4 films had going for them was replaced with questionable casting, shitty (even by the standards of the series) jokes and a surprisingly hefty amount of self-congratulation.

I keep expecting these to get worse and worse but even though I tried to dislike this, it still pleased me. Maybe it was my incredible low expectations, but I think this is actually one of the better ones. It feels more like a consistent film in itself (while the previous 4 seem more like long episodes of a bad TV show), and Lassard is just brilliant in this. Not particularly funny, but rather entertaining. The loss of Guttenberg and Goldthwait doesn't hurt it too bad either.

I would say they should have quit while they were ahead, but all I can muster is that they should have quit when they were only slightly behind the rest of the planet in determining what is funny and what is mercilessly raping a stable full of dead horses.

WHY WOULD YOU DESTROY A GREAT ORIGINAL? WHY? THE JOKES WERE ONLY FUNNY THE FIRST TIME! QUIT IT ALREADY
