"His hair - his hair smelled of little boy." This is an actual line of dialogue. Most of the movie isn't meant to be taken seriously - Johnny Knoxville's deflating erection is used for "comedic" "effect" - but when it wants to be serious it says, "His hair - his hair smelled of little boy." I want everyone to know this line, because that's the kind of tone mood swing that breaks even trash movies.

Many extra points for the charismatic Mads Mikkelsen. This movie is diminished by asine performances from Matt Lucas. It has several very lovely ladies, especially Katheryn Winnick, Vanessa Hudgens, and Ruby O. Fee. I was satisfied mostly because of my enduring appreciation for Mads and the exciting plot. The school scene was batshit crazy. The warehouse scene was awesome. Don't mess with Duncan. Despite flaws, I was engaged and entertained. Worth watching.

Like nutcrackr said, it starts very badly. It tried so hard to be stylish and cool but came across as silly. But it did redeem itself to some extent as it went on and I did end up enjoying it, warts and all. Mikkelsen was a pleasure to watch here, there were some fun action sequences (one in particular). I basically just agree completely with nutcrackr on this one.

Didn't hate it but it starts very badly and isn't a great movie. Some decent bits and some completely stupid bits. It has one sex scene that goes on forever. There is one good action scene in a corridor and the general combat is fun enough. The A-team are largely stupid and bring the movie down.

It's pretty trash honestly, and I am easy to please and a huge Mikkelsen fan. It's just poorly written and has a lot of shitty supporting performances. It also tries a little too hard to be slick. That being said there is some redeeming violence and the cool factor of Mikkelsen to enjoy.

Ideally if you're watching this you have clapped like a sea lion for any dreck about hitmen since you saw Leon the Professional in college, yet still feel all the more flattered by this film's now-obligatory undercurrent of self-effacement.

I really liked Mikkelson and Hudgens in this, and there were a few impressively handled action scenes. Åkerlund's style seemed to work well, but the film's good points struggled to get past the overall silliness. Matt Lucas was a genuinely baffling casting choice, and a number of the other characters and plot points just fell flat. It held my attention, but never fulfilled whatever promise it had. Feels like a mash-up of John Wick, Suicide Squad and The Room.

Extraordinarily gratuitous in an uncomfortably poor effort to mimic better work. Mads Mikkelsen has a good moment or two"I had a dog once"but one can only hope that he at least had a lot of fun here, because the end product is nothing anyone could be proud of. Gross, cheap, and altogether terribly done.

A film that starts out horrible, but slowly redeems itself. As time goes on it gets better, and ends up being as cool as it tries to and fails at in the beginning. The result is pretty mixed, but I ended up enjoying myself more than I thought, even though this is by no means a good film.

`mads mikkelsen`’ın karizmasıyla 1,5-2 tık yukarı çıkan film. kötü karakterler çok sorunlu olmuş, fazla renkli ve karikatürler. kurgu basit. aksiyon sahneleri fena değil. çatışma sahnelerindeki kamera açıları ve yönetmenliği beğendim. beklenti düşük olursa keyif alınacak bir film.

If you're in the mood for some hitman action then this should hit the spot. Everything else is poor to wretched though. Matt Lucas for example is truly unwatchable and the silly goon squad tracking the protagonist are supremely annoying. Consequently the film drags when any of them are around. But Mikkelsen is great as always and every scene he's in is worth watching, so if you're an action fan and a fan of Mads I'd say give it a go. There's a lot worse out there.

Polar is a bizarre mix of surrealist hyper-violent comedy and a banal tale of vengeance and absolution. The cast is alright, with Lucas doing a Boris Johnson PM impression, though the dialogue isn't sharp nor well-written, and each character seems to bring their own tone rather than working as a cohesive group. The film would have been streets ahead if it had replaced the last 10 minutes with Mikkelsen accidently shooting Hudgens (a call-back to his brief dog ownership) and fading to black.

The flick was trashy, yeah, but Mads Mikkelsen did his part like he supposed to. I did not like all the supporting actors and the script was pretty bad. Enjoyed most of the time though. Oh, and the majority of the ending sucked.

(Mini spoilers) I liked it. I didnt expect it to be the best movie ive ever seen, so i had fun. It had some cringe for sure. I feel like the perverted goofiness of the first half of the movie was a good juxtaposition to the torture and brutality of the second half. It was still mostly dumb that being said. Once the movie wrapped up though it has solid groundwork behind it and the possibility of a solid sequel with apparent direction. There were some really great parts. Mikkelson is great too.

A movie that's style over substance but without much style. The editing comes across as nauseating rather than cool, and while there are entertaining personalities that appear on screen none of them do anything to merit more than a tongue-in-cheek moment while sticking to the one-dimensional routine established for them at the start of the film. This wackiness is not only weak, but also feels out of place when the film pushes a serious story that is extremely predictable and uninteresting.

An ambitious attempt to create an over the top, violent action franchise doesn't really pay off. Mads does his best and at times almost carries the film single handedly but a terrible performance from Matt Lucas as the 'Bond Villain' among other mis-steps weigh the movie down too much. I still would watch a sequel to see if they learned from their mistakes as the idea of a glossy 'John Wick meets Kingsman' is one that has potential if they got it right.

There's a lot of trash in this film, specifically the nudity and that unnecessary villain, but there's some real beauty in the shots and colors, along with great acting and suspense from Mikkelsen

There are at least two other movies named 'Polar'. I have seen neither of them but they cannot be worse as this piece of terribly executed shit. Akerlund fails to make a coherent movie. It's torn between being a drama or an over the top action flick. If only the action were as good as its obvious inspiration 'John Wick' but these are some of the worst action scenes I have seen in my life. Mikkelsen is solid, but thats everything the movie has to offer.

Mikkelsen turned in a good performance. I appreciate the effort to be stylized in a world of action drivel but there's not enough substance for it to land. i.e. the unexplained A-team, the structure and function of the company, and Mikkelsen's relationship to much of the cast just goes unexplained. Some bold decisions by Netflix that they didn't go through with too. Why have such generous runtimes on the torture and sex scenes if you're going to downplay them? Overall fails to stand out.

Possible - perhaps even probable - I'll look back and wonder what the fuck I was thinking, but in spite of myself, I enjoyed this. It's undeniably trash, but it at least has the dignity to know it's trash, and not to overreach much beyond that.

Besides a tendency to: be really dumb (the opening set piece, very misguided casting choices and truly stupid characters), be over-the-top graphic, and make questionable plot choices; this movie is actually watchable and, dare I say, enjoyable. This is mainly due to Mads Mikkelsen and Vanessa Hudgens, who both are great here and portray very sympathetic characters you want to root for. You end up really wanting them to survive the film.
