Pochi no kokuhaku

Low key crime drama lacks sensationalism, working to its advantage in creating a convincing air of docu-realism, but there is also a lack of fire to the drama at times, which becomes problematic as the film passes the 3 hour mark. Holding it together are the performances; Sugata's haunting performance in the lead is superb, even as the screenplay misses a vital chunk of time in his character's development, and Idemitsu proves a chilling scene stealer as the corrupt superintendent.
