Playing by Heart

Cheesy and certainly has it's problems but it's got enough to push it above the average awful romantic comedy.

Reminded me a lot of Love Actually (big ensemble, feelgood, love is central, mildly connected stories, etc), except it wasn't as good. The thing is though, Love Actually isn't really all THAT good either, which makes this less than good, which makes it borderline bad. Not terrible mind you, but certainly not good. I was really only interested in a couple of the stories, and even then, I feel like it was more because I liked the actors/actresses in those stories, not the stories themselves.

The big thing i hate here is that three of the main characters are busy dying of something or other, which is a cheap way to create emotional scenes. I'm a bit distracted by the telling lots of stories at once format, but the end brings it all together so nicely its forgivable. Everyone is charming & looks great.

Flawed and a little cheesy at times, but overall quite entertaining.

Excellent dialogue, good acting. A bit saccharine at times.

playing By Heart is a little verbose and wordy, and does rather like the sound of its own voice, but it is witty and has fairly good observations about relationships. Ultimately, it's a fairly well written, decently acted film that has a heart of gold.

Mislabled genre; there's no comedy.
