Has a certain off-kilter charm.

While I wouldn't say it's good, it's definitely a really interesting time capsule of the Soviet attitudes towards space exploration and Soviet futurist aesthetic. It's also a strange mixture of harder, grounded philosophical science-fiction with campier adventure movie elements like dinosaurs and tentacle monsters. Great production value and effects for the time. Obviously an influence on both Kubrick and Lucas.

Not great by any means (2001 must have seemed like a revelation a few years later), but it's hard not to believe that the hovercar was the model for the one in STAR WARS.
