What a film. I had so much pure fun watching this that I can't bear to mark it down for it's few faults. If the riduclous plot and a few other minor errors are overlooked, this is damn close to being the best thing ever. I've never seen a splatter film that has everything, and so much of it. Chick with a gun for a foot, the best cast ever for it's genre and general awesome makes this the best film I've seen in a long while. There's so much good here it's hard to say enough for it. Watch it. Now.

By far the superior half of Grindhouse and easily my favorite Robert Rodriguez movie. It's hilarious, gory, and action-packed, it does a brilliant job parodying the bad movies it's concocted from parts of, and Bruce Willis has a hysterical monologue. And Rose McGowan is made of liquid sex and I am in love with her.

Ugh, clearly made for straight dudes. The fact that every single woman that has somewhat of a relevant role in this film is sexualized to no end is wild. I could appreciate some of its wackiness but overall it's just not for me at all.

I love the Tarantino/Rodriguez style of exploitation films. It's not even a case of "so bad it's good", it's just genuinely good and well-executed movie, plunging head-in and excessively to all the best bits of action.

About as subtle as a brick to the face - especially in light of its better half, Death Proof - but it's a fun ride. The problem, if any, is that it screams homage from start to finish, instead of aspiring to actually do its own thing. Entertaining but ultimately slight.

It does try far too hard to replicate the Grindhouse era (and not to much avail) but "Planet Terror" has an amazing cast, great action set-pieces and fantastic gore FX. I think Rodriguez needs to watch a few more Grindhouse films before trying to recapture the spirit once again.

Wild, crazy, over-the-top zombie/mutant film, which successfully pays homage to the tacky, gritty 70s grindhouse genre filtered with a hip, "now" perspective. The "70s film" conceit wears thin at times (it may have helped to actually set it in the 1970s and be done with it) and the stomach churning violence and horror threatens to be repellent, but it is all shot through with a generous dose of black humour which helps keep it palatable. Helped by a game cast who give it their all.

Easily the better half of Grindhouse, very few films offer the level of pure visceral joy packed into Rodriguez' zombie opus. It lovingly captures the cheap schlock feel of the material far better than its QT counterpart, and after the non-stop blood-splatter and hilarity of this chapter, a bunch of broads sitting around talking about 60s pop music is just...well, boring. The cast is great (Willis especially), but Fahey and Biehn put it over the top. It's knowingly stupid, but I love it.

Needs more gore. But seriously, it's more exploitative juvenile crap along the lines of Sin City. This time in the form of a zombie flick, and double-billed with the superior Death Proof as a supposed tribute to old "grindhouse" movies, to which it only harks back in how retarded it is.

What the hell. Seriously. What the hell is this movie? It's not so bad it's good, it's just stupid from start to finish. The movie is filled with ridiculous directorial decisions that are just mind-numbing and overall the plot, acting, and feel of the movie just sort of sucks. The gore is needlessly cheesy and ultimately that's the whole draw of a movie like this, making it virtually worthless. That being said, it is at the very least entertaining and easy to watch.

Probably unnecessarily high levels of gore and violence are just a couple of factors that make Planet Terror over the top. The editing and aged film effects add a cool style to the film that undoubtedly comes off as funny and weird to viewers unfamiliar with the reasons for making the Grindhouse series, but it doesn't detract from the film. In the end, if you can stomach Planet Terror, it's extremely entertaining monster movie mayhem. Really good!

It ticks all the boxes a film of this style should: palpable suspense, fantastic lines, uproarious humour, strong action, OTT moments, a slew of memorable characters, very good acting, pounding score, visuals that fit like a glove, and lots of gore. Had it kept up the same energy in the final act and maybe paid more attention to Bill and Dakota, who fall by the wayside, it would've been great: instead, it gives in to explanations and an emotional closure when its very DNA defies those elements.

I was promised zombies and action, and i got a mildly exploitative boring film with hardly any zombies and not the usual zombies. The 70s look and editing just don't work. None of it really works. Dialogue and scenes are often intentionally bad, but it just comes across as boring. I usually appreciate so bad it's good films, but this just doesn't work, or isn't for me.

Rodriguez's portion of Grindhouse is better than Tarantino's. Not great but often very entertaining parody of the exploitation/zombie genres that blends a ton of different movie types. Most similar in tone to Rodriguez's Machete, which was made a few years after this (and which I enjoyed more.) That is to say it's cheesy and makes fun of the genre and B movies like this while also clearly having a love of them. Top cast who all seem to be enjoying themselves. Some of the gore is a bit juvenile.

(Viewed in 2015): Grindhouse was always going to be a hard sell because it's a tawdry throwback driven by geeky adolescent impulses. Unlike QT, Rodriguez is honest (i.e shameless) about his intentions with P.T and isn't pretending to subvert expectations of trashy drive-in fare. On the other hand, the obvious post-production tinkering to achieve 'aesthetic authenticity' results in complete contrivance. Luckily Rodriguez delivers gory aplenty, and his cast are enthusiastic accomplices.

Campy and irreverent fun, but perhaps with a little too much filler, and the production design makes it feel very dated - did they use a lot of green-screen studio work? Rose McGowan's leg looks great still, and it's an excellent gag I wish wasn't spoiled by the marketing. The dialogue is nonsense, and Bruce Willis phones it in really badly.

For a film with a lot of cool stuff going on in it, it sure is boring. Why make a homage to exploitation flicks when you're not even going to bother improving on them (except for increasing the budget)? There's no parody, or subversion, or anything original -- it's just an empty 90 minute wink-nudge. This film isn't alive, it's just re-animated.

While there are a couple of mildly amusing moments, there is also an unpleasant tinge to many of the narrative and character decisions, with the result that the intended "fun" of the experience seems contaminated by a slight uncomfortability. Also, it outstays its welcome. The very convincing use of computer manipulation to turn an actress into an amputee is a clear demonstration of the essential doubtfulness of the image in the digital age.

The cast was simply brilliant ( Brolin, Biehn,Willis, McGowan ,Rodriguez all fit their parts perfectly) The action/gore was amazingly over the top, the sexyness splattered all over the screen (most notably Miss McGowan and miss Ferguson) A nice tribute to the old grind house movies from the 60's and 70's . A shallow homage that extends perhaps an hour of story into a grueling 100+ minutes, I feel my current rating of 45 might even be too high. Despite being a decent looking film (save for the horribly-distracting faux-grain effects) with some ok performances, the story itself is poorly paced and mostly just bad (and not in some sort of slyly-cool-meta-ironic-hipster way either). There's little to recommend here unless you've got a craving for some gratuitous gross-outs with a side of Rose McGowan.

It looked great, it's imaginative, & bloody and lots of good things, & if nothing else RR deserves credit for making Fergie look half-decent, instead of like a 60 year old hobo. But a couple of things really niggled at me throughout; particuarly the horribly mis-cast Freddie Rodriguez, who was a terrible foil to the outrageously brilliant McGowen.

I see the appeal in paying homage to 80's exploitation films, but the thing is, some of them were so bad that watching them isn't an enjoyable experience.
