Here we finally witness the complete implosion of the franchise, as the story can no longer support its own needlessly complicated mythology and the endless series of double- and triple-crosses between characters we've ceased to care about. The sheer spectacle of it all is mildly entertaining, but it can't save this confusing and unpleasant shell of a movie.

Hey, here's my brilliant idea for a movie duology: we'll spend the entire first film hyping up this giant, unstoppable Kraken that kills everyone and building tension about how our heroes can possibly defeat it, then, get this (this is the best part), we'll KILL IT OFFSCREEN BETWEEN THE TWO MOVIES! Genius, right?! Go fuck yourself.

What the hell is going on? I need some kind of chart to understand who is betraying who and when. Seriously, the Pirates franchise did not need a Lord of the Rings type mythology. This movie is incomprehensible, I don't know any of the characters motivations and why they added so much pointless shit. Everything about Calypso should have been cut.....but at least it looked cool.

Like a good captain, this latest (and last?) entry in the "Pirates" franchise goes down with the ship. Familiar heroes and villains must band together to fight even worse villains, perform rescues, and go head-to-head with Chow-Yun Fat, mostly to serve up 168 minutes of non-stop spectacle. The plot is largely nonsensical, characters switch sides of the conflict from scene to scene, and much is lost to the hectic pace and CGI effects that jump off the screen.

After my disappointment with the second one, I just prepared myself for a spectacle without having much hope for an intelligible and interesting story. Consequently, I had a pretty good time. The plot is convoluted and confusing, sometimes even boring, but the effects are good (occcasionally gorgeous), the action is strong, and there are enough amusing moments. Still, unlike the first film, I don't see this having much replay value.

The conclusion of this Disney cash grab trilogy was surprisingly enjoyable. Whether it was simply severely lowering my expectations, inserting my own intermission into the nearly 3 hour movie, or just being granted some sort of conclusion for some characters, in the end it seemed like standard giant blockbuster fare. That is if you consider this the "Transformers" franchise of pirate movies. Overly convoluted plots and expansive mythology just covering up an expensive CGI action schlockfest.

Better than the second but still nowhere near as entertaining as the first. Again there's not enough Captain Jack Sparrow and honestly who cares about everyone else? Keira Knightley received a ton more screen time and who knows why. The betrayls got out of hand to the point of sillyness. With that said after 2 hours I wanted the movie to end. Clearly a 1.5-2hr story dragged out to three hours. I wouldn't call it good. I'd call it entertainment.

I'm a bit torn on this. The first 40 minutes are excellent. The last 40 minutes are awesome and epic, and while predictable, are also great to watch. The middle part (which is way, way too long) is a study in rubbish and mediocricy, and puts the trilogy to shame. Not bad overall., but not too good either. Depp is what holds it together. The plot is pretty bad by this point, it's as if someone has been playing Jenga with the internal logic of it over the course of the three films.

Eye candy of the last film is exhilarating.Transitions between 3-D, composites are nearly flawless even rarely seen among blockbusters. Still paying no attention to plot ties, entertainment as a collection of short pieces are on their way. I especially liked the tension created in the meeting between the armadas on a little piece of sand with the Morriconeesque score :).

A surprisingly poor ending to a great first two films, the plot isn't that confusing but is simply too contrived. The plotline is very poorly written and was obviously a rushed job, making the film very lengthy and dull for large sections. It also fails where the first film suceeds, in pure watchability leaving the viewer dazzled by an aray of special effects and distrought by the fact that such a great trilogy could have such a crappy finishing point.

I’m watching this with a face like Gibbs when he’s trying to work out what confusing thing Sparrow just said. It’s a chaotic whirlpool of a plot with a bloated bevy of boats (which one is this again?), betrayals, and motivations that move around at the drop of a cap’n’s hat. But like Jack, it can still be goofy, good-looking fun (the hallucination scenes are a bit much though) when it sticks with its great action set pieces and doesn’t take its convoluted dramatic storylines too seriously.

When a movie trades plot and good story telling for spectacle, it is rarely a good thing. Sure some of the fun is still around here and there and the spectacle is truly amazing. The plot is too complicated, too much double and triple crossing, some things just aren't ever really resolved or resolved well, like Calypso just leaving and Beckett's end. Also what was up with the multiple Jack Sparrow's all through the movie? That just got a bit annoying.

After nearly a decade, I rematched this, from memory, mediocre sequel and had a change of heart. It's still an overlong mess, but it's also uncompromisingly true to it's myriad of intertwined elements, no matter how left field, silly or downright insane they are. Pretty impressive for a big budget blockbuster. It kinda feels like hay-day Terry Gilliam has been given the reins to a otherwise straightforward Disney franchise.

At World's End didn't learn from the mistakes of is predecessor and persisted to over complicate the series. Even more fringe characters are pointlessly introduced and the twist and turns in plot are ridiculously unnecessary and make no sense whatsoever. Johnny Depp still manages to entertain but the novelty has all but worn off. Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly are a joke and even the return of the great Geoffrey Rush can't salvage things. Long, boring and by far the worst of the franchise.

The series has become too confused in its own not very interesting mythos and the almost 3-hour runtime drags this down. Visually and sonically it's spectacular, but that doesn't make up for how generally soulless and padded-out this end to the trilogy seems to be. It has its moments, but they're few and far between in a film that is trying so hard to be epic.

The third installment of the "Pirates" series has been met with a good amount of criticism and negative reactions, but for me, it's a success. The pirates uniting together for their freedom, the evil Beckett attempting to genocide them, and the final showdown between Sparrow and Jones: it's a dream come true for real pirates fans! It's a motivational movie, a message to never give up, even in the face of death! I will always love this movie!

And wit's end. Part III is an endurance test for sure, a turbid, turgid, two-and-three-quarter-hour kiddie movie (an added quarter-hour per sequel), which depends upon your memorization of the earlier episodes to help you figure out what the hell is going on. It's enough to drive a man, possibly even a boy, to drink. Keith Richards, the Rolling Stone mossback, makes an overhyped acting appearance an hour and three quarters into the action, for maybe five minutes tops.

If you would have told me after watching the first one that the same cast would make three movies and the last one would be complete shit I would not have believed it possible. Because they left too many plots open from the second film this movie is way too long and not all of the plots even get resolved in a satisfying way. It really felt like a lazily written movie with way too much of Jack Sparrow acting weird to cash in on the popularity of the character and series.

The story is an absolute mess, filled with nonsense and a general lack of making any sense, with characters changing sides almost randomly. Depp is still all right, and the last hour features some generally rousing action though, but these positives, as well as the special effects, do not successfully counterbalance the aforementioned problems.

So, I'm still not really sure what I thought. The special effects are beautiful! Amazing scenery! The story is somewhat hauntingly beautiful, & I was surprised by some of the final scenes. The only reason I'm a bit confused is that I was... well, confused. And while I applaud the writers for the complexity of the story, I felt that there was too much for the one film, leaving me confused, & we never got to delve into any one character. Different feel from the first films. Sadder & less humor.

Spiderman's review applies even more to this movie. Only Pirates is even longer, more confusing and introduces dozens of completely unnecessary characters that do absolutely nothing other than being introduced. Constant betrayals from one side to another obfuscate the character's motivation even more and by the time the finale comes along, I was so confused I didn't care who wins at all, in fact I didn't know what every character was fighting about. AWE did an okay job of finishing up the second movie, which I believe is an abomination, but still, At World's End failed to end with any closure. In taking care of the loose ends from DMC, it opened up all kinds of new plot points that go unfinished, which is just annoying. The filmmakers cut corners on things that seem important, while action scenes and gags take unbelievable amounts of screen time. Somehow, despite its flaws, it's still fun and worth seeing. Meh!

At World's End looked to be better than Dead Man's Chest in a lot of respects, but ultimately it felt like it wasn't intended to be anything but closure to the second movie. It felt weak in comparison to the other two movies--yes, even Dead Man's Chest--mostly because it was more action and drama than it was adventure; and considering how great the adventure aspect of the series has been, that was a big problem. It's not bad in every way but it's too different for its own good.

I hated almost everything about the story. It made no sense, they spent large amounts of time on things that didn't matter at all, and they opted to put in a bunch of really goofy shit in there. BUT, it's still got great action, it looks amazing, and since most of the goofiness was intended, it had a lot of laughs too. A miserable slog of a film that suffers from an overload in characters, expositional dialogue (a lot of which doesn't make any sense,) and video game-like special effects. Johnny Depp is still great in his signature role when he is allowed screen time, but the problem with this later entry into the franchise is that it pushes the primary characters from the superior first film to the sidelines in favor of CGI battles and monsters. I dislike the epilogue for a lot of reasons, and most of the drama seemed overdrawn and phoned in, but the action was still as attention-grabbing as ever, especially in the final showdown. The new characters that were introduced were intriguing in their own right, and I can't shake that slow-mo scene of Beckett descending the stairs. It was a good end.
