Modern exploitation B-movie schlock that should satisfy its target audience with its gratuitous level of boobs, gore, and cheese. However general audiences, if presented when in the right mood, might have some fun with the movie's over-the-top fun too. Although firmly in the first group, I definitely enjoyed the film for what it was on first view, however on rewatch, the campy shock factor wears thin surprisingly fast as the movie frantically plods along before all the 3D blood and boobs.

The first 30 minutes, or so, is a marvelous display of huge tits in various leisure activities. The next 60 minutes is a marvelous display of huge tits in various leisure activities; and a very graphic splatterfest involving high numbers of college kids getting torn to pieces. But really: More than anything else this is a foreshadowing of the huge impact 3D-technology will have...on porn.

All that one could hope for from a blood-drenched, juvenile B-movie about fish 'n tits. There are more than a few truly memorable gory demises, but somewhere around the 50th gleefully gruelling slaughter of an innocent bimbo, the whole thing begins to feel more sadistic than fun... Still, it gets points for using 3D as a gimmick (3D vomit and 3D chewed off dick), thus being the 2nd Piranha movie to take a bite off of James Cameron's good mood.

It has a grand sense of B movie excess in the astoundingly bloody wet t-shirt competition slaughter, and it's an indisputable joy to see Richard Dreyfuss and Christopher Lloyd channel their characters from two of the greatest summer blockbusters of all time, Jaws and Back to the Future. But the movie surrounding these elements is generic killer animal fare and the 3D effects are mostly half-assed.

At last, a modern B movie that knows what it is. They may use more money these days but this is the sort of shamefully disgustingly entertaining films. Some may object to the boobs on show (I certainly don't). Others to the gore (which is too 'real' on the cartoon - realistic scale but each to taste). Others may point to the plot (theres fish and they bite humans - rawr) or what Shue or Lloyd or Rhames are doing. Whatever, this is fun dammit.

An over the top, self aware, extremely gory parody of Jaws played completely straight. So absurd with such amazing death scenes that its impossible not to laugh with the movie. Lloyd basically playing Doc Brown the piranha scientist is nothing short of incredible in a movie like this. Go have a few beers and then head to the theater in the right mindset for this.

Nice genre exercise that manages to create something truly fun by simply denying any trace of serious entertainment. While the Joe Dante film is an abstract piece of art, this one relies on its eye candy visual of vulgar pleasures: bodies eaten to their bones, a dude shooting a softcore porn film and hiring a local teen as their guide, Christopher Lloyd as the mad piranha expert, quotes like "it's a shark!" or "ok Speedo" and Ric Dreyfuss as the opening-about-to-be-killed fisherman.

PIRANHA 3D is, for better or worse, completely unpretentious. It delivers exactly what the title promises: lots of (terrible CGI) piranha, who devour people, in whole or in part, in an incredibly bloody fashion. In the last third of the film, the mayhem really gets going, and you can have a pretty good time. But up until that point it's a bit of a drag (the frat-boy tone doesn't help), and the characters are fairly dull in of themselves. Among the cast, Adam Scott and Ving Rhames come off best.

i dont care what anyone says, this movie is exactly what it wants to be and pulls it off perfectly. If you watched it and didnt like it then why did you watch it in the first place? what were you expecting? personally id expect a movie about mutant fish to be a comedy and if it wasnt id expect it to be terrible. Mr. Aja wanted to make a gory comedy with loads of nudity in it so he through mutant fish into spring break, the perfect recipy and then through in some delishis one liners and your gold

In an era when it's nigh on impossible to make even a passable remake, Alexandre Aja has managed to rise above the schlock and created TWO great horror remakes. "Piranha" was by far the best film of 2010 in regards to sheer fun, entertainment and sleaze. Another notable aspect is that "Piranha" has the best use of 3D I've ever seen and what I consider to be the benchmark for the modern use of it. Definitely worth a watch for gore fans as the FX are simply phenomenal.

It's what you could expect, really. Aja can't direct worth shit, so he's resigned himself to just throw goofy shit, blood and tits at the screen, which is pretty much the only approach that works for a film like this. It somehow felt too calculated and after a while it all just started to blend together and get a little... meh. But a film like this is immune to criticism anyways and if you're in the mood for something really trashy, of course you're gonna watch it. The 3-D adds nothing.

Disgusting. I thought it was supposed to be a remake of the Piranha 1978. I was wrong. This movie was horrendous, so nauseating. The plot was bad (many facepalm moments........), the acting was awful, the amount of boobs almost suffocated me. There were a few funny things: seizure man, the stupid girls underwater scene (which was SO bad that it was funny), parasailing chick etc. And Adam Scott was hot

A movie about a past pet of mine, the Piranha. I thought this movie was a lot better than I was expecting and now I'm seriously bummed that I didn't get to see it in 3D in the theaters. I loved seeing Richard Dreyfuss doing a bit part at the start of the film. I was also really happy to see Christopher Lloyd playing the crazy fish scientist. Adam Scott, Ving Rhames, Jerry O'Connell and Jessica Szohr rounded out the cast nicely with noticeable faces. Tons of fun and blood to be had with this film

It's strange to see such a large collection of has-beens all thrown together in a movie directed at a bunch of kids who can hardly recognize these people. I'm simply glad that the writers figured out they couldn't make a decent horror movie out of piranhas, so they didn't even bother.

Ridiculously good fun. I was expecting a typical lame film with an overabundance of naked women to make up for the fact that it sucked. Whilst it did have a hell of a lot of naked women, it never bothered taking itself seriously and had a feckload of gore and laughs. That massacre scene was so great. Really was not expecting to enjoy it at all, so it was a really pleasant and fun surprise.

I had some fun with Piranha, and I would suggest watching it if it sounds like your kind of film. If you don't like gory, cheesy b-movies, this won't help persuade you, but if you do, then you'll probably have a good time. If the characters had more depth to them, I might have cared when they started getting ripped apart. As it stands, I enjoyed it more before the piranha were released on the crowd -- the dialogue was more enjoyable to listen to -- but after that, blood and guts fly everywhere.

Thought I would hate this movie, but instead I kind liked it because it doesn't try to be anything that it is not! Here's your cocktail: hungry piranhas we all thought extinct, a spring break with a lot of naked skin, A lot of dumb american teenagers, one hero and last, but not the least the perfect line: "They took my penis!" Even though it was very tacky all the way through, I was entertained but it was more a "come on" laughter than it was a "it's funny" laughter...

The 3D is mildly nauseating in parts (and 3D *never* bothers me), but that can't hamper the unbridled joy of watching this cheese-fest. The story is something of a bore, but it's not the focus of the movie: 3D porn-star tits and blood are. A lot of the gore here is gruesomely detailed, which contrasts the penis-eating cartoon sensibilities of the rest of the film. But the movie knows exactly what it is and does its job well. Dreyfuss and Lloyd reprising their iconic roles (Jaws & BTTF)? Amazing.

Everything that a B movie can hope to be, Pirahna 3D runs the gamut of gore and sleaze without ever so much as a hint of taking itself seriously. Being so low brow, makes it easy to miss how technically well done and efficiently paced the overall film is, especially as compared to a lot of recent teen horror. Also the film stands out for being actually filmed for 3d, rather than a sloppy post cut conversion; giving a good reason to see it in theaters rather than waiting for a rental.

On reappraisal, I was harsh on a film which deserves praise for its technical quality; one has to sit through, say, Dinoshark to realise that this has a high bar of quality. Sadly it still doesn't work for me, suffering from a disjointed structure and, despite its 3D penis, aspects which felt compromised than exploitative. The central massacre sequence also feels far too sadistic in tone from what came before, unlike a film like Peter Jackson's Brain Dead where its carnivalesque splatstick.

This is such a stupid and yet such a funny (and fun) movie to watch. It just goes all nuts with the B-horror genre and goes all in with the gore and the boobs. Fun little roles by Ving Rhames, Christopher Lloyd, and Eli Roth. Watching a movie made for 3D these days is kind of awkward - especially not watching them in 3D - but I think in this case it just added to the zany and hilarious feel. It's not a good movie, but it's exactly what it promises to be.

Fun and passes the time. Some over the top and original gore scenes in the latter half. I didn't see it at the cinema, therefore I didn't experience any of the 3D effects - those look pretty dumb on a flat 2D screen. Excessive amounts of flesh shown in the film. No acting, no suspense - just a standard B-movie shark... pardon me, piranha flick, with all the standard tropes that come with this tiresome formulaic Hollywood drivel. A very detailed and morbid party scene, drastic change of pace.

Like his HILLS remake, Aja is working through a heightened register of go-for-broke tacky tastelessness which will not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you can understand why his deploying of the Flower Duet during the swimming sequence is so hysterically funny, you'll have the key to appreciating the film proper. A terrific example of sleazy, sadistic trash, done so well that it completely redeems and justifies its grotesque excesses. Nice cameo from Dreyfuss is just the icing on the cake.

Never have so many CGI objects been thrown at so many by so few. 'Piranha' is the probable apex of 3D cinema as a form, something between a roller-coaster ride and a porno squeezed into the rough shape of 'Jaws'. While you have to give this credit for being so shameless in everything it does, that doesn't mean it's good. While I'm usually a big fan of Aja's work, this isn't his finest effort. Despite a solid cast helmed by Elisabeth Shue, Adam Scott & Ving Rhames, plus a neat new spin on the original plot, this is a messy clunker that cares more about bad humor & boobies than telling a good story. It's not horrible & still looks great next to The Spawning, but it just isn't as fun as it should be.

While certainly not a good movie, Piranha checks off all the boxes it sets out to do. From a combination of dumb and crude dialogue, to a plot virtually non existent, very bad CGI, to well...boobs and ass. Piranha is an entertaining one time watch, however it isn't a good movie, but with a synopsis like this, it clearly doesn't set out to be and because of that, makes it better than it has any right to be. Eye-candy isn't limited to t&a, as there is also a ludicrous degree of gore. But like most summer blockbusters, Piranha 3d, a remake of a Jaws ripoff, is too lame for words.

Most ridiculously over the top film I have seen in... possibly my life!

Maybe I had the wrong expectations going into this movie, but it is just ridiculous. Terrible writing, one-dimensional characters, corny special effects. It's too loud and too uninteresting.

A bit like Jaws, only without any of the character development or dramatic tension. OK... not like Jaws. A bit like Girls Gone Wild, only with flesh-eating fish and Doc from Back to the Future. That's more like it. It's really stupid and extremely gory, but I was surprised by how bad the CGI was, considering it makes up a large portion of the film. The underwater scenes in particular look really cheap and crappy. It says a lot that the two best actors in this film are both about 10 years old.

The most satisfaction I got from this film was from watching those dumb-asses get eaten by piranhas. The rest is a mess. It did attempt to unabashedly channel some B-movie sensibilities but the terrible major characters and the "not crazy enough" plot prevents it from becoming a guilty pleasure.

You can say film art have gona a long way, when you watch a remake of a ripoff. Doesn't share much with Joe Dante's Piranha except, well, piranhas. I wasn't really prepared for this MUCH gore. I'm sorry, but dick scene IS TOO MUCH. Mindless fun without as much fun as there could have been.
