SPOILER So you are telling me that the guy pretended to be dead? That's your twist? Fuck you movie, and I thought you were cool because you made Philo's traps fail in a pretty comedic manner

Like with the detective films of Michael Shayne, the detective character Philo Vance also died with PRC in 1947 to never been seen on the silver screen ever again. Philo Vance's Secret Mission (1947) was the last one, with Alan Curtis returning as the Philo. Not as good this time around, but slightly above William Wright's attempt. Still a very standard B-movie production without much to make the mystery stand-out. Philo Vance will be remembered for the years William Powell playedhim.

A fairly standard low budget mystery featuring Alan Curtis as Philo Vance. The movie tries but fails to capture the suave and cheeky tone of the original films and Philo seems bland here since Alan Curtis lacks the charm of the other actors who portrayed Vance such as William Powell.
