If a bit overly "Disney" in tone, but the sexual tension between Wendy and Pan is palpable, and if I ever were to show your kid a version of Peter Pan, this would be it. And then I'd put on 'Alien' ...

The best, most faithful film adaptation of J.M. Barrie's play. Somehow manages to balance a modern approach with respect for the source material. A terrific cast all up and down the line, and magic that doesn't curdle. Highly recommended.

Wonderful retelling of Pan, with a GREAT Hook by Jason Isaacs. It gets a little muddled in there, but I sure wish the same people had made Narnia.

The definitive rendition of J.M. Barrie's work, superior even to Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings" as far as recent fantasy adventures go. Spotlights the speculative sexuality latent within the material and really allows a young cast to shine.

Well-wrought adaptation that balances the frivolity of the tale, while adding psychological (and dramatic) complexity - just like MURIEL'S WEDDING, Hogan proves he is a master at this sort of tricky tonal balancing act, making Pan a wistful and poignant figure, while turning the Pan-Wendy relationship into a touching (and moving) love story, contrasting against a furious Isaacs, who goes full pantomime as the vicious Hook, as Sumpter and Hurd-Wood effortlessly ground their scenes. Great fun.

The idea of going more serious and darker on some points is interesting, but it's kind of uneven. Some kids could be lost halfway through by the slowing down of the pace and the psychological war with Hook. The romance and the way Wendy was treated, while they start out telling she's like 12, was a bit weird at times. I guess other kids might like it still.

Every Peter Pan -movie or animation so far has been more or less annoying. P.J. Hogan instead, has succeeded, making the story even bigger fantasy and with brighter colors than ever. That made the movie exceptionally good. And all those young actors did really good performances.

Peter Pan is beautiful and well cast. The musical score is outstanding. Jason Isaacs is a scene-stealer as Hook. All in all this is the closest to a perfect adaptation of the original story we have ever had.

Maybe they could have cut about 15 minutes out? The color regrading needs to be dialed back, but this was the early 2000s so is understandable.

Peter Pan as always faces with adult themes and despite this being made for a younger audience, there are still some pretty harsh adult stuff in it. The acting is alright and I really liked Jason Isaacs as Captain Hook, even if there were times of overacting, it suited the character. I am quite surprised the film cost 150 million dollars to make though, because it certainly doesn't look like it was that expensive to make.

Never quite knew Peter Pan was a love story until I watched this version. To love and to let go for one's own dreams is the telling of this tale.

Peter Pan is an unnecessary retelling of the well known J.M. Barrie story. Personally I love both Disney's animated classic and alternatively Steven Spielberg's charming 'Hook'. This adaption however is tonally all over the place. It's the darkest take on Pan yet. But for the most part the writing and acting panders to children and the young cast of unknowns are tolerable and of mixed quality. But Jason Isaacs is the only notable exception and he steals the show as a worthy and menacing Hook.

P.J. Hogan's take on the classic story lays it on pretty thick at times, but at the same time, it offers a more faithful approach in its dark and psychological (if shallow) themes that you won't find in many other renditions. It's also worth noting that, despite the evident age of its effects, the film still has some eye-popping visuals and an appropriately whimsical score.

Gorgeous. Jeremy Sumpter and Rachel Hurd-Wood are good, but the real pleasure in this is watching Jason Isaacs. He makes a *wonderful* Hook, and Richard Briers is a perfect companion Smee.

An arguably unnecessary retelling of the classic tale. Nothing hugely surprising, in terms of story, being largely faithful to original portrayals. Slightly overzealous emphasis on magic and magical effects. Richard Briers is a hero of the highest order, though. The slightly darker tone, common with noughties gritty reboots, makes for more engaging viewing and the interactions between Isaacs and Sumpter highlight the disturbing dynamic of a man obsessed with murdering a child.

In an attempt to breathe added dimension into the well-known children's story by J.M. Barrie, this live-action Peter Pan is fun, action-packed and smart-looking, if a bit misguided. Oh, sure, it puts a premium on family. It reminds young and old alike that growing up, while difficult at times, is an adventure not to be missed. There are plenty of positive messages. Yet parents may feel it's inappropriate for the target audience. (plugged.com)

A great childrens movie which highlights the life a kid who never wants to grow up. Some areas of the movie are a bit unnecessary long, such as the revival of Tinker Bell which takes what seems to be hours. However there was some good humor in the film which can be appreciated by adults, such as the confusion between a thimble and a kiss, which some children are almost guaranteed to overlook. This movie is almost guaranteed to be in the DVD player when children are around.

Well, it's better than _Hook_, anyhow. And it meets the need, if any, for a live-action version of Barrie's children's classic in state-of-the-art 21st-century technology. Or as the ad line puts it: "The timeless story as you've never seen it before," meaning, for example, that by means of Forrest Gump-ian magic we get to see, for the first time, Hook's stump. Sumpter brings to the role of The Boy Who Would Not Grow Up a crackingly adolescent voice

Pretty enjoyable, but I don't think Peter Pan is suited for live action. You see a dog who is a nurse in an animated film or a stage play, and you don't bat an eye. But you see a real live dog force a kid into a tub, and you think "wait, how did the dog do that? That doesn't make sense!"

Sure, it's a darker version of the original Peter Pan story than any previous (and everyone seems fascinated by the sexual tension), but it lacks much inherent fun, despite some neat set designs. Jason Isaacs is of course a cool villain, but Dustin Hoffman's Hook is still my favorite. Ludivine Sagnier has a glowing screen presence as Tink.

While the visuals relied way too much on CGI for my liking, I did enjoy the somewhat more mature and bittersweet take on the story, though it fumbles a little. Hurd-Wood's Wendy is both sweet and tomboyish, a very fresh and likable interpretation of the character. Sumpter's Peter is nothing special, but at least he's just kind of irritating instead of downright obnoxious. Isaacs plays a refreshingly creepy and dignified Hook, a nice change from the more comical incarnations of the past.

The only good side to this film is Ludivine Sagnier as Tinker Bell, who does a great job and makes you smile whenever she's on the screen. Sadly, it amounts to maybe a minute altogether, if you exclude the time she's just a tiny speck flying around.
