Peter Pan made it cool to fly! No, wait. Flying was always cool. Peter Pan made staying young forever cool. Nope. Everyone has always been trying to stay young. Peter Pan tried and failed to make wearing tights cool. There it is. That's the one.

Peter Pan remains a thoroughly enjoyable Disney classic that is remarkably much older than I often seem to think. The characters, songs and the sense of family friendly adventure still entertains and the animation still holds up. But by today's standards there are certainly some political correctness question marks. Peter Pan, Wendy & Tinkerbell may all be a memorable characters, but Captain Hook is undoubtedly the highlight of this film and he is one of my all time favourite Disney villains.

(2014-15 Disneython #8:) To be honest, it's not one of my favorites, despite introducing many Peter Pan themes and visual motifs that stand to this day. Captain Hook is amusing but never actually threatening in the least. Didn't like most of the good guys that much either. Asking what made the red man red in polite company is not recommended.

Quite possibly the worst Disney classic I've seen, and that's a shame because it has a great villain and a great concept. Wendy is a dull and one-note protagonist, Peter is an awful person, the Lost Boys are nothing side-characters, and the plot is jumbled. On top of all that, there's a whole bunch of blatant & jarring racism towards Native Americans. Under all the awful, the overall theme gets pretty lost. Very disappointing.

My favorite part is actually the hilarious-in-hindsight, blatant racism. I've never really enjoyed the concept of Peter Pan that much, and the classic Disney movie is no exception to that. I find this much more irritating than charming, although I have to admit it's well-made (and that Captain Hook is a wildly entertaining villain, who I have always found myself cheering for when I watch it).

Peter Pan, the character, is a completely selfish piece of shit, and the idolization of childhood is terrible. Luckily Hook and Tinkerbell are pretty cool and the pacing is pretty solid so that makes up for a lot.

Recounts most of the major events of the novel, but lacks the verve and life and depth that the book possesses on every page. The animation is merely passable, Peter's shadowy entrance being the great exception to this. The film elides all the real questions about growing up in favor of several entertaining, but silly, set pieces. It elicits some laughter, but the potential is there for so much more.

Middling 50s Disney AND a middling PAN adaptation – bursts to sporadic life when Conreid and Thompson’s Hook and Smee double-act is firing; ironically the London based scenes are the highlight, and are genuinely charming (especially “He Can Fly”), but Neverland lacks any sense of magic or wonder, and the second half suffers from lurching pacing, dull characters and aggressively unfunny portraits of the native Americans. Sandwiched between ALICE and TRAMP, it’s a particular disappointment.

Peter Pan has never been one of my favorite Disney movies. I found stretches to be boring. Moments of pure genius are present in this movie. The whole Tinkerbell scene where she is charged with treason is cute. The back and forth between Pan and Cap. Hook is great and the ever-present crocodile adds something unique to those encounters. The use of the father's voice for Cap. Hook is also pretty special. The worst part of the movie, which can't be overlooked, is the terrible depictions of NA.

This doesn't have the same magic or maturity of later Disney animated films, but some of the portrayals of Neverland are inventive and adventurous. Also, the film's latent racism towards Native Americans sort of dates it, so it's a mixed bag.

Freaking ADHD scream festival this is. Peter pan's character has no depth and when he finally gets to make an important decision characterwise in saving tinkerbell's life or the lives of the rest, nothing happens. no morals to be learned here, but the duo of Hook and Smee makes up for it.

The story of the boy who never grew up was given the Disney treatment in '53. All was well with the film for the most part. The animation is good, the adaptation is faithful for the most part. Above all else the comedy surrounding the character of Captain Hook was pure gold. Unfortunately those who are familiar with J.M Barrie's original work may take issue with the darker aspects of the story being left out for the sake of the Disney brand.

It is not the Disney's brightest moment. It is annoyingly racist (it shows how racism was imbibed in the society back then: they put it in a kid movie!). From a children movie perspective I found it badly-formulated also (I'm becoming a connaiseur of children movies; I am afraid!!!); it is all over the place; too many concepts oo little time. Kids could not clearly distinguish where to place Peter Pan (If you are nasty he is a spiteful, two-timing jerk; not somebody a kid can identify with).

Some iconic character designs, and Pan in flight is well done, but fairly tame and average fare, doesn't quite capture the magic of a Neverland. Speilberg's Hook for me far the better option, with better music, better scenery, more engaging story.

Sweet and dreamy Disney kitsch but by far the weakest and blandest film of a decade that brought such stunning visual highs as Alice In Wonderland and Sleeping Beauty. As usual, my enjoyment of these movies usually depends on the glamour and fierceness of the villain and Captain Hook and Smee's lame slapstick routines just didnt cut it.

Maybe I saw the Disney short version too many times at christmas-time, but somehow the film has some characters that just annoy me. Now that Peter Pan is in the public domain, the Disney Company's deepening exploitation of the character (including the commission of several unauthorized sequels) and its refusal to honor J.M. Barrie's legacy to the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children amounts to villainy rivaling that of Capt. Hook. Though technically within their rights, keep in mind that if you give money to Disney for PETER PAN, you are stealing money from sick children. Watch the excellent P.J. Hogan version instead.
