Strange and hypnotic. I was really surprised that a film in 1982 treated a lesbian relationship with such grace. Wonder how much time they spent trying to get the right breathy ADR over-top nearly every scene.

I like how the only two other review blurbs for this movie here as of me writing this are one that's all like "this movie explores the struggles of achieving peak athleticism" and the other one is like "damn bro this movie got mad titties!" Why not both?? That said titties aside I did find the protagonist a bit dull, both in concept and performance by Mariel Hemingway and it made me a bit ho-hum on the overall movie. She didn't run quite as fast then learned to run fast, yay.

Generic sports movie, but with full-frontal nudity, a hundred f-bombs, and a lesbian romance at the center of the plot. How did this get made?

Solid sports movie with deep, interesting characters and solid appreciation for the effort that it takes to become an athlete.
