Across his life, Brakhage was inspired not only to contemplate and make manifest his own thought process and visual experience but to consider the shared, cultural aspects of those forms, and to explore the variations of shapes, colors, forms, and movements that might typify the underlying thought process of a given culture. one of brakhage's less interesting hand-painted works. hope the whole series isn't like this.

The weakest of the first three, it has some really nice colours but the abrupt cuts to black break any flow.

Man, the more I see of Brakhage, the more I'm starting to love him, especially this hand-painted stuff. I don't really know how to assign a number to what I felt about this, but I do know that I liked it. Same with the rest in the series.

Nothing much to say here, if you like the hand-painted work, you'll love these. #2 is especially spectacular, glorious swirls of color utilizing the same kind of zoom effect from Black Ice. #3 has an interesting "Rorschach blot" effect, asymmetrical images superimposed over symmetrical ones.
