I felt like this was too melodramatic and that takes away some of the emotion, but it is still a fairly emotional movie that isn't too long or boring. I liked both Pine and Banks in their roles. Some of the supporting cast is good too. Overall, I found it to be a really enjoyable movie.

Much deeper than its shallow trailer. Elizabeth Banks and Michael Hall D'Addario (the kid) were exceptional. Yes, it dragged out the initial premise, but it became less of a detraction as it progressed.

Solid family drama. Pine is really good in this one.

The drama never really feels all that important because it follows the same formula as every other film of this genre. Despite having solid lead actors, its just another film with soapy dialogue and over dramatics. It could have been better if shorter and more focused.

Elizabeth Banks was excellent. But this movie was unforgivably dull. It was 2 hours of no plot. Maybe it could have worked if it were 30 minutes shorter. I think there was an idea that could work here... but..

What a surprise: Pine is convincing in People Like Us!! Story is good, acting is good. No need to say more. 67/100.

This film feels like a formulaic romantic comedy with some sappy "tragedy" tacked onto it so as to make it deep or something. Surprise, surprise, this film's drama is incredibly shallow. I just didn't find any of the characters likeable in this film and some dialogue exchanges made me cringe. Don't watch this, its mediocrity isn't worth anyone's time.

I didn't HATE it, but it's one of the most cliche, predictable, and sappy movies I've ever seen. Very generic.

An awkward, incestuous rom-com. They're flirting again. The have such good chemistry. She wants his sausage. She's his sister. Doh!

Wouldn't be that bad if it was given to a good director. Also Chris Pine proves that he is too immersed in action flicks. It was like watching a misplaced Capt. Kirk (his Kirk). Same gestures, same intonation, same posture...

Above-average melodrama that puts a suprisingly formidable cast to great use, both comedically and at more serious moments.

Found this really touching, well performed and they REALLY stretch to the point of utter frustration at times. Which actually works in context. Couldn't help seeing Kirk in Pine at times though.

I always did like those melodramas... If you had asked beforehand, then I would not have expected Chris Pine to be able to pull off such a role, but he actually does. Heavily supported by both Pfeiffer, Banks and the director, but still.

It mostly works, except that where Frankie and Josh are wide open and vulnerable, Sam strings them along with sustained lies, and as the we grow fonder of Frankie, we grow less fond of Sam. This isn't a good dynamic for the audience or film. I had a feeling things would work out for Frankie, but I no longer cared about Sam's issues or his increasingly irredeemable soul. I can't believe the writers ever meant for me to divorce myself from their main character, but what did they expect?

Too long and too sappy. Had a lot of potential with the story but Elizabeth Banks is a pretty terrible choice for this role and removes any gravity the script might have otherwise had.

Someone transmuted the story of family loss and discovery onto a script for a shitty and cliched romantic comedy. Every plot development and character motivation felt like it was lifted from a completely different story.

Through some sort of miracle the kind of forced sentimentality that usually bores me kept mildly engaged through the film. And the kid managed to not be shitty, so that's surprising.

The movie starts off slowly and gathers its pace and then ends pretty quickly. The movie could have definitely been shorter than what it is. The story really depended too much on the acting of Chris Paine, who I feel was kind of the weak link. Elizabeth Banks and Michael Hall D'Addario (Josh) play their parts well. Its an an average movie at best.

Takes its time to get kind of interesting and when this finally gets there it never stays for very long. Being overlong, using a sledgehammer and relying on Pain-acting; that's a three strikes combo at once without even mention the script gone wrong.
The actress-threesome involved don't get many chances to repair some of the pain, but they - and especially Elizabeth.B - give a good try. *Preview*: #12#, exp-3*, story, reviews, actresses, R2.
