I like the direction, acting, story, and look of the film but for some reason, I nearly always feel underwhelmed by Joko Anwar's works.

this is pretty disturbing. they're all barefoot in their houses. and the kids just piss on the floor.

Good ol' indonesian horror.

Saw this again and Tony is just effing cute.

Solid

It takes its time setting up the family and that paid off because I actually cared about them. There wasn't any forced drama, just a loving and sympathetic family trying to make ends meet. Then things get spooky and we are treated to some really great jump scares and a tense atmosphere (the house itself is perfectly built to freak people out with a creepy portrait, long hallways, etc) but also a nice twist on the genre. Pretty cool story in general.
