Having rewatched Pink Flamingos just before this, it's certainly a shock -- there's obscenities going on here, too, but the film eschews Waters' previous acidic taste for something more wholesome and uplifting. It does maintain Waters' loud humour, a lot of the side characters are hilarious in their own way, but it's Furlong who centres the film with his reassured and calming presence that's in line with the film's jolly mood.

Probably Waters at his dorkiest, but even that is wholly charming and endearing.

Pecker has a seriously uneven pace, taking far too long to get going, and while it undeniably has its moments, the humour regularly falls flat. The characters are endearing though and the performances generally good, but it feels as though there's a distinct shortage of Waters' trademark weirdness influencing the proceedings.

Delightful. The ending is annoying. Waters probably tried to make it an ironic/parody kind of thing but didn't succeed and it comes off as plain bad kitch.

Takes the adage of a "spoon full of sugar" a bit too far when shoving its message down your throat; forgetting to tell us a compelling story in the meantime. Takes 30 minutes before we get a glimmer of a plot. THIRTY FREAKING MINUTES! WTF John?

As far as John Waters' films go, this one is quite tame.

Although I am a huge fan of John Waters, this one was a bit of a let down. The movie is interesting and has some good characters but the plot of this film is slightly too normal and its not as outrageously gut renching as some of Water's others.

Tame and tepid satire from Waters with none of his usual bite or outragousness.

As always good stuff from John Waters with standout performances from Furlong and Ricci. Why Furlong was passed over for Nick Stahl in T3 is completely beyond me. Toe knee :-)

A real departure from his typical fare and I don't know that I like it. Although I found it touching, I'll take chicken-fucking and poop over it any day.

The way everyone talked this movie up to me, I expected more, but it came off as a movie that truly belongs in the deepest nether-reaches of the indie section.

Adorable John Waters flick about a boy learning to be a man. Far more mainstream than other Waters flicks, its accessability makes the Waters oddballness more fun.

I like Eddie Furlong and applaud his choice with this movie, but the movie itself isn't really all that good.

Entertaining but mostly forgettable entry in the Waters canon. Ricci's performance is interesting.

A solid John Waters outing, but not one of his classics.
