Bay directs the slaughter by air of hundreds of sailors with the same weight that he directs giant robot-cars punching each other in their metallic faces. In other words, Michael Bay is a sociopath, which is seemingly at odds with his desire to slather every one of his pictures with a treacly sentimentality -- what, I presume, he most closely approximates human emotion to be, the better to distract us from his own glaring lack of it.

Probably the worst big budget movie ever made. From the formaldehyde-infused romance, the historical ignorance, and the videogame action scenes, Michael Bay is just rubbing his balls all over our collective faces. I guess in this analogy Ben Affleck would be jangling his sack off to the side, slowly becoming disheartened.

I'm giving this one a 2. 1 for Josh Hartnett, who seems to have forgotten the notice that all the other actors were going to phone it in, and the other 1 for the awesome pyrotechnics display in the place where the attack on Pearl Harbor should have been.

An attempt to appeal to both male and female audiences that fails due to an utterly programmed, formulaic and tepid romantic triangle, and a depiction of war as part glory, part sacrifice, part patriotic fantasy, but mostly spectacle. Fails, that is, except in the sense that it earned $450 million in ticket sales.

Although this movie had a very romantic plot to it, there were many inaccurate things about the war itself. For example, the Japanese did not use the wooden submarines like they did in the movie. Also, the aircrafts that blew up the naval base, were not able to affect a car in away way except having a few bullet holes and cracking the window. HOwever, the love story was creative and unique. It didn't have the typical "live happily forever" story ending which was good.

Long, overbloated love triangle story that just happens to take place during the Pearl Harbor bombings. Pretty boring until the actual bombing happens (which admittedly is rather impressive) but other than that this a film with elements that have been done before and done far better than they are here.

South Park seems to portray Michael Bay perfectly. He has a flair for designing fast-paced and quite impressive action scenes, but then goes and lets everything down with terribly predictable efforts for human relations and a half decent plotline. Dialogue is for the most part abysmal and I never predicted that such a load of romantic garbage would be thrown in the mix, holding up blatantly American virtues. At the end of the day nobody likes two arrogant American bastards for heroes.

There is nothing to be taken seriously , infact there is nothing to be taken in any context here. Just about nothing. But if you only skip through the movie and watch the sfx version of it, you might even get aroused by the car chaselike dogfight scene. Bay tends towards b-movies as he tries to get epic on the scale. Funny.

There is bad, then there is insulting. This falls into the later category; I don't care if Bay wants to make his testosterone fueled action films for teenage boys. But when he starts to bastardize history and deliberately bend it to suit his own political agenda, I have to step in and call bullshit.

It's long and cliched but frankly it's not that bad. The action scenes are well done and the drama, while forced at times, is effective in creating a human framing for the story. The terrible voice over ending was too much for me, though.

It could have been the perfect date movie. You go to the cinema with the girl, you buy the popcorn. Movie starts, you sleep a bit while the romance stuff is going on. Then there's a break, and when you come back there's war like you wouldn't believe! --- sadly the fucking thing doesn't know how to or when to end, and drags on forever, as the Americans attempt a retarded symbolic counter attack.

A peerless synthesis of the worst sensibilities of Old and New Hollywood. Just a hamfisted, plebeian, insensitive treatment of the subject matter, an awful idea from the get-go. That it was "successfully" conceived, produced, and released speaks volumes about Hollywood at the turn of the new millennium, though I think they've learned their lesson, as I can't off-hand think of anything so singularly, copiously hateable that's come along since.

Among that garbage, probably one of the worst scripts ever written, much less produced by a major studio with $140,000,000 that could've gone to hundreds of veterans' hospitals.

Where to start? Perhaps the most offensive thing about this trite, poorly written, badly acted, shameless crock of unfeasibility, is that so many people depend on media for their education, that they believed the series of events portrayed in this film actually happened. Or maybe it was the soundtrack. Who knows?

Bay's attempt at a modern epic, and it largely fails. There are at least two movies stuffed into one. And in a three hour movie, the most effective part is somehow rushed. The best part being the final 45 minutes (can't call it the third act). The first hour or so is as sappy as movies get, and the dialogue running through the entire thing is pretty bad. It was cool to see guys like Baldwin, Akroyd, Shannon, and Sizemore pop up. Was that Daniel Craig at 2:11:15?

I hated this movie the first time I watched it. Partially because of the runtime but also for the Michael Bay-ness that I didn't think really fit this movie. I appreciated the explosions and action of the movie a lot more this time around. I still think the movie could have dumped about 20 minutes of long cuts but that is a theme that I have been promulgating for years now. The acting is where this movie really shines. Also, the sets and costume designs were wonderful.
