Interesting bits here and there. Going in I thought, "I'll be disappointed if this is just 8 Mile" but when the credits rolled I sighed and thought, "This should have been more like 8 Mile."

This film made me think of Precious - I suppose as its about a somewhat outcast adolescent/teenager dreaming of better things, getting by with a depressingly bleak urban domestic situation. There's obviously a heavy use of beatboxing and rap/hip hop type music present throughout (this is somewhat of a rap style musical, of sorts). I guess its about self expression, to an extent. It's aan entertaining enough watch, with some amusing scenes and some sobering ones, its quirky and worth a watch, yes

Think "Hustle & Flow" meets "8 Mile". It's a fairly typical 'against-all-odds' type film, featuring an emotion-heavy plot and power-filled finale. It features some great music and solid performances but the film's major issue is that you can't help but feel like it's all been done before and no matter what curveball they try to throw in, it's not surprising. The film is still enjoyable though and is worth a watch.

I liked and disliked this movie at the same time. It's a lot different than I expected it to be. It has heart, but not in the way I really imagined it would. It is often cheesy, but it is all pretty unique besides coming-of-age cliches.

It's good, not great. The songs are fun, it has some heart, but it's a pretty predictable coming of age tale. But I mean, it has good performances and does it well so it's worth a watch, even if there isn't much you'll remember down the road.

Typical by-the-numbers story, but manages to stand out due to well-drawn characters, excellent performances, and a hell of a lot of fun songs. Macdonald is incredible, and Jasper marks himself as a director to watch.

It's a rap movie for people who don't like rap, basically. It's hard for a movie to be this dated with her rap style, the cover of their demo(like a late 90s No Limit cover) and the fact that they're essentially doing a battle of the bands lol. It's the big screen equivalent of Hamilton. Culture vultures indeed.
