This was the first attempt to cinematize the works of Irish author James Joyce. Based more on a stage adaptation by Mary Manning than the Joyce novel itself, the film concentrates on Dublin pubkeeper Finnegan (Martin J. Kelly), who while in the throes of inebriation has a vision of his own death.

a surprisingly successful and concrete adaptation of joyce's strange masterpiece, which speaks directly to the subconbscious and captures an impressive amount of the book's depth and poetry, being more easily digestible in the process. the text is oddly understandable, kind of like how in a dream you understand what is being said, even if you don't exactly hear it. a wonderous piece of dream, death, orgasm and insanity.
