A compelling, very horny love triangle that has things to say about the pitfalls of human desire. I think it’s fascinating when the least likable character drives the plot of a movie like this. The script and direction are great, running through a lot of nuanced emotions without making anything feel rushed or melodramatic. And could the costume designer please come re-do my wardrobe?

The great Frank Rogowski portrays one of the most deranged and insufferable narcissists i have seen on film

Too much drama, poor script, easy to predict the ending. Total disappointment.

I feel like they made this as a response to all the annoying gen z-ers that say "actually, sex isn't needed in movies!!!1!1" and I'm really thankful for that. I wasn't blown away by the movie at first, but it kept getting more engaging for me, resulting in a very emotional viewing experience. I do think the characters could've been a tad more fleshed out, but I cared about all of them nonetheless.

"Passages" is Ira Sachs' best film yet, a beautifully uninhibited exploration of the complexities of love and desire that defies heteronormative expectations. While not always easy to watch, the film's non-judgmental approach to its characters and their actions is refreshing and thought-provoking. The performances, particularly from Rogowski and Whishaw, are strong, and the film is visually striking.

Pleasant enough (I mean, there's pretty people and Paris interiors), but has surprisingly little to say.

Surprisingly bad given that so much could've been done with the same story. The main character could be interesting but we are not shown (nor told) why they are. So we are just forced to watch his antics and fill in the gaps. Lazy directing.

A study on a particular kind of relationship dynamic. The film ends up feeling a bit dry because our main character isn't likeable at all and ends up with his straightforward comeuppance. The story and all the plot points are laid out in a direct, linear way, which leaves little to engage the imagination or desire for 'story'. Ben Whishaw, as usual, ruins the production by far out acting everyone.

It reminds me of Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing" although the protagonist in this case is far more tortured about his options.

Every page of the script: "INTERIOR BEDROOM, GRINDIN' DAT ASS". The plot was so basic and bare bones...did it even fill a single page?

The acting is good across the board, but I didn't enjoy spending time with these characters (they eventually come to the same conclusion).

What prevents me from accessing any of the thematic substance is being blinded by disdain for the central character and every decision he makes. I can only feel pity and annoyance for those that allow his banal selfishness to dominate their lives. Is this intentional? No clue, but didn’t enjoy the experience very much along the way.

Fascinating and compelling drama feels like vintage Woody Allen turned inside out, with Rogowski playing a Woody-type full blown ugly and toxic; indeed the central trio are all so ghastly and manically narcissistic in their ways that the film becomes borderline difficult to stomach at times (Woody Allen’s CLOSER?) So bracingly honest and clear-eyed (and so beautifully performed all around) that it’s tough not to emerge with at least a grudging respect for what Sachs has accomplished here.

It's indeed a hot movie filled with hot people, but it's just way too controlled and self-aware to really surprise me.
